BBC News reports that YouTube has removed removed dozens of videos promoting gang violence after a request from an east London council.
Newham Council has created a special unit within its enforcement team to trace videos it believes could be used to recruit new gang members.
The scheme, which has been running since January, has indentified about 500 videos and 76 of them have so far been removed.
Other London councils are looking at the scheme with a view to adopting it.
The enforcement officers trawl the site looking for local references and if they find one that is offensive they ask for its removal.

GOOD!
The music video shown at the start and at the end of this news report…. *rubs temples* who is funding this rubbish?
When I come across videos like this all I see is a bunch of bored d*ck head 90s babies exposed to a steady diet of American ‘gangster’ rap and imagery, who probably spend their weekend’s watching the film Menace II Society or episodes of The Wire on DVD, when they are not running the streets like a bunch of lunatics. All seem to be desperate to create and live a destructive Crips vs Bloods lifestyle (“postcode wars” anyone?), a ‘lifestyle’ they have no real understanding of.
And where did the BBC find that defender of foolishness who spoke towards the end?
Anyway your thoughts please….

It’s about time someone did something. They only feel brave with knives and guns in their hands, but they are the biggest cowards. This gang life is as good as being dead. It’s like being a zombie. Nothing good ever comes out of it.
These videos don’t need to be “funded” – they look like they were shot on an iPhone for a start. It’s all too easy to film a video with your crew, firing invisible guns at the camera and waving bottles of whatever, then upload it to YouTube. With this low barrier to entry you get a trailerload of foolishness.
Trust me these guys dont watch The Wire
