BEYONCE SIGNS GLOBAL ADMINISTRATION DEAL WITH WARNER / CHAPPELL PUBLISHING

Billboard reports that megastar and the always engaging Beyonce has signed a global publishing agreement  deal with Warner/Chappell Music. Warner/Chappell headed by chairman/CEO Cameron Strang will administer the star’s future songwriting, including her anticipated next album.

In response to this breaking news Beyonce said in a prepared statement:

“It’s an honor to join Warner/Chappell Music and to continue working with my friend Jon Platt. “I trust his vision and admire his professionalism, and I look forward to our partnership.”

The line about her “future songwriting” caught my attention. It’s comical for a number of reasons.

  1. Beyoncé wrote the whole Survivor album herself. If you look at the credits for all of the songs only the producers are co credited. Stevie Knicks is even credited as a writer on Bootylicious although they just sampled her song. She also wrote a few of the songs on Dangerously in Love (DIL, Gift From Virgo, Daddy, Me, Myself and I & Baby Boy). The producer/ co writer of Crazy in Love said Beyoncé wrote the bridge and added the “Uh Oh” part which coincidently are the two most memorable parts of the song. She hasn’t really wrote a whole song herself since B’Day. She has even stated this in interviews saying she loves doing the harmonies and arrangements of the songs the most which according to ASCAP constitutes as writing credit. She also has said a lot since B’Day that other writers articulate her ideas better than her.

You can actually tell when Beyoncé lyrically writes a song because they are always simple with a sista girl twist.

Also Danja recently did a vlog talking about how he played a track he produced for Beyoncé and he said when she heard it she loved it and instantly started writing.

  2. she has been caught out many times, even by a fellow musician Neyo when he outed her lies on writting ‘irreplaceable’

  3. Is she still only trying to appeal to the dumbed down? I really want to like this woman’s talents and not admire her work ethic ( after she one alone don’t work hard). James Brown worked hard and really was an artist and never tried to beg friend as much as this lady. Why is she so thirsty? Some of these popstrels work too damn hard at not going away for a while to get some proper inspiration. Boy, it’s hard to love mainstream music these days, especially if one came up in the high point of music (the 70’s). I feel like I’ve been in a decade long Depeche Mode video, but with less talented and far more vain players. The electronic, lack of melody thing is still the same, though. Laugh at me, I know I’m showing my age. Big up your blog, Janice!
