Sarah “Saartjie” Baartman, displayed as a freak because of her unusual physical features, was finally laid to rest 187 years after she left Cape Town for London. Her remains were buried on Women’s Day, 9 August 2002, in the area of her birth, the Gamtoos River Valley in the Eastern Cape. Baartman was born in 1789. OSCAR PISTORIUS RELEASED ON BAIL

Via BBC News South African athlete Oscar Pistorius, who faces murder charges over the fatal shooting of his girlfriend, has been granted bail after a four-day hearing. Magistrate Desmond Nair said the state had not made a case that he would flee, or that he had a violent character. The Paralympic champion denies murder, saying he shot Reeva Steenkamp thinking she was an intruder at his home. The next hearing in the case has been set for 4 June. Bail was set at []

BEYONCE SIGNS GLOBAL ADMINISTRATION DEAL WITH WARNER / CHAPPELL PUBLISHING

Billboard reports that megastar and the always engaging Beyonce has signed a global publishing agreement  deal with Warner/Chappell Music. Warner/Chappell headed by chairman/CEO Cameron Strang will administer the star’s future songwriting, including her anticipated next album.
