Several days ago I posted news about the questionable up and coming Top Boy open casting call.
UPDATE:
Open casting auditions for the second series of the Channel 4 drama Top Boy have been cancelled.
From what I hear via the Twitter streets hundreds of young people turned up to the open casting call today at Hoxton Hall in North London. The police then arrived to help disperse the crowd and now the auditions have been shut down.

In response to the latest turn of events Twitter user JamelJs tweeted:

After reading the open casting call advert I had a feeling in the pit of my stomach that today wasn’t going to go as planned.
Oh well I guess casting will have to take place at a later date. But I suspect that the scene they are casting for will feature some form of negativity and stereotypical behaviour.
…
The teenagers who turned up early for the casting call are not the ones to blame for the cancellation. BAD ORGANISATION is. The organisers have a lot to answer for. Surely they must have known beforehand that hundreds of teens from all over London would attend this open casting audition.
And where are all these over exaggerated and false reports of an ‘eruption of violence’ coming from???
Many now suspect that the youngsters have been royally “stitched up”.
Your thoughts please….

They should have created a competition via youtube where those wanting to be apart of the show would record a 1 minute audition tape and the public would vote for who they want in the show.
Or give a chance to all the kids who are learning how to act but were rejected in the main auditions for the big parts which were already cast.
this looks like the organisers are clue-less about open call auditions.
I was there, peeps were throwing fireworks , I would call thAt violence…
Really, didn’t the Organizer’s expect anything else..?
This is an Audition for a tv series..That hits every crucial topic concerns of Modern times..Of course there’s going to be a turn out like this..Ohh Yer..IT’s the Publicity Game..Ok course..at lease noboby got hurt or arrested..!!
The only thing I have to say is why anyone in his right mind would want to be in Top Boy??? Also from what I heard they were looking only for 4 person, like Melissa said it would have been more clever to call back the ones who didn’t make it for the big parts
it smells like a set up though!
I was one of hundreds to show up and I thought it was a very silly idea to give my generation a chance even if they don’t have talent, they should have done it by the people who have talent and live in a area like hackney where the things that happen in top boy happen in there area, I wish I had the chance to audition so I at least had the opportunity to show my acting potential. Better luck next time.
It does smell like a set up – no matter what scenes they were casting in that show there is no reason to just have a ethnic casting.
@Melissa they have ethnic castings all the time. They will have a casting call for a black male or a black female etc. The only problem is there is not alot of them and they are usually to play negative roles, the reason why so many black actors and actresses are going to the US.
i was there with my son our agent sent him and it was a big let down. we ended up running away and it was very scary
I know what an ethnic casting is, in a show about inner city london gang culture to just have non white people is suspect. White people are the biggest gangsters of all in the UK.
@Melissa
“White people are the biggest gangsters of all in the UK”.
Braaaaaaap fire, Babylon is fallen, is fallen. I concur also with your suspicions about this “audition”, the whole thing looked suspect. Edom up to his old tricks again perhaps?
