UK PR FIRM HADDON SAYS MAD NEWS JUST AIN’T ‘RELEVANT OR DOWN WITH THE YOUTH’

Another day and another Twitter “spat” with a pair of UK media types who just have no sense of humour and take themselves way to seriously.

Hahahahahahahahaha.

Haddon PR is a popular creative organisation ‘who work with some of the biggest brands, acting talent and music artists from around the world’.

Tonight they posted photographs of actor Ashley Walters modelling different designer brands for a photo shoot.  I like Ashley, I have been following his career since the Grange Hill days and he does look good in the photographs but one image really caught my attention.

In this photograph Ashley is wearing a mixture of brands (Bathing Ape, Nike, Jelly and Cream). Now I am the first to admit that I am not an expert when it comes to fashion i.e. the different brands, what people were wearing last season and what people will be wearing next season. I have never paid that much attention to what goes on in the world of fashion. But his outfit kind of reminded me of what some young people were wearing back in the late 80s and early 1990s.  So I jokingly tweeted them saying “Have we been transported back to ’89. What kind of a mish mash is that?”.

However my little quip did not go down to well and I received this prompt reply “It’s called a street look. Step outside”.

Then came the following….

Well the angry nineties baby and PR/Stylist Brad Hobbs really told me!

I will now work hard to feature something different and relevant to youth culture by recycling street wear looks from yesteryear.

It’s the only way forward folks.

  1. Street look??? The foolishness has gone too far with this European debauchery called fashion. I have camo jogging bottoms and even I know what other clothes to wear them with. In that picture, the pattern on the shorts doesn’t yoke with the top that Ashley is wearing.

However, this is typical of today’s nonsense. Enough of this “all aboard, nobody left behind, anything goes” crap. What happened to colour and pattern coordination? I do not see how having the youth dress up in some Back To The Future/Terrahawks/Ox Tales/Rainbow/Button Moon timeline clothing is going to bring any relevance to the youth culture.

I love the way you deal with these fanatics Janice, you are upsetting people like I do, keep up the good work, lol. And as for Haddon PR, Brad Hobbs and Bolade, whenever you are ready. I’ll give you a verbal lashing and smoke you like your taste in clothing.

  2. @ Verbs don’t you think it is sometimes wise to take in some constructive criticism, i know you and Janice never back down to anything nor should you if you believe in it 100%. But sometimes i think you guys are just hard headed and can’t take someone having a different view point to yours. This current article aside because i agree Ashley looks ridiculous, but in recent weeks new visitors have expressed some valid points concerning the blog.

  3. @Lulu
I’m always happy for people to express there opinions concerning the blog. I have no problem with people having a different point a view. Its an open forum.
I post what I post and may respond to criticisms from time to time in a lazy fashion and then just keep it moving.

But it’s bordering on ridiculous when those same people keep returning and complain constantly about the blog’s content. Why keep coming back? That makes no sense to me. Lol.

  4. Wow, what a really unprofessional response! It’s that mentality that if you do not like something then you are a “hater”. Not every “look” is a good look. Also, the arrogance – he has never heard of your blog so that means that Mad News is not relevant or something.

  5. @Verbs
“I do not see how having the youth dress up in some Back To The Future/Terrahawks/Ox Tales/Rainbow/Button Moon timeline clothing is going to bring any relevance to the youth culture.”

    LMAO!!!

  6. How unprofessional! This is the worst way to use a company twitter account or respond to light criticism. I’d change PR if I was Ashley.

  7. Maybe he should ask his clients like Ashley if he has heard of you. We all know the answer to that one lol. If the client knows who you are and he doesn’t, maybe Ashley should really think about changing PR companies. Clearly, there not as “with it” as they think!

  8. How unprofessional of them! If I was their client I would pull my account. Their behaviour is not only childish but very detrimental to their reputation and their client’s brand. I just looked at their website and it looks like something a school kid put together and anyone who knows anything about business knows that you should have a landline number down as well as a mobile number. And no office address? Reeks of sheer shadiness.

  9. @Lulu

Are me and Janice being hard headed, or are we just calling out things as they are? This blog is called Mad News for a reason, because Janice brings us the “mad news” of mainly the entertainment and music industries.

It is the author of the blog who determines the content that is brought forward and published and how the blog is to operate. This is Janice’s blog, she has the right to operate it as she sees fit. Obviously, if mistakes are made in any particular posts then they will be corrected but this is an individual blog, it does not have to conform to any other or have a set standard and quite frankly I like the fact that this blog is different.

It seems that you keep forgetting the title of this blog so allow me to remind you, MAD NEWS. I’ll repeat it again, MAD NEWS. This very title alone lets you know that you should expect the unexpected.

  10. These people don’t know fashion or streetwear, what Ashley Walters is wearing is wack, that’s not revelant this is the style people were rocking 2 or 3 years ago.

I sold a similar Bathing Ape jacket last year. That style of Bathing Ape is played out, period.

These guys are trying too hard number one and number two Ashley is 30, 31 he ain’t a youth no more. Number three that looks like something Apache Indian would’ve worn in the 90s seriously.

This is the problem with fashion people don’t wear what looks good they wear what’s in fashion even if they look like a dickhead which to me isn’t what fashion or style should be about.

  11. @Janice

Agreed. I could have brought Sesame Street and Rodd and Emu into the mix aswell but I thought I would spare Haddon PR further embarrassment and woundings.

    @Chico Rei

Cosign your last sentence 10000%, an absolute slam dunk calling out what people on the whole are doing these days. But yet again people should be asking the question of who is promoting all of this so called “fashion”? Somebody somewhere is deciding what will be the next crazy foolish garments to sport and I believe I have an idea of who these “fashion” culprits are.

  12. Bape have been over for over 5 years now, so this stylist doesn’t even know what he or she is doing. The military/cargo street look is over 8 years old. What next supreme clothing is cutting edge? Or superdry?

I thought maybe i’d be seeing an “edgy” or even textbook eastlondon “hip” look, but thats not even what i’m seeing. The styling is dry as hell and this supposed PR firm is childish and unproffesional.

These people setting up PR and management companies with little experience or knowledge , really need to sit back and look at their choices and how they execute their campaigns. Why get in a twitter spat with an in their words nonentity blog?

This really is nothing in the grand scheme of things so why the outpouring of emotion? The personal twitter handles?

  13. lol janice does it again…. he looks crazy to me. They know who you are janice…bet that..

  14. @Chico-rei
Apache Indian BLAST FROM THE PAST!!! And spot on he did dress like that lol

    @Moreno

Nah Brad rolls with the UK “in crowd” stylin and profilin, I doubt he knows who I am LOL

  15. Let’s hope he got paid big time. For someone who’s in there early 30’s and nominated for a bafta it could be a great excuse

  16. @Verbs

I think a lot of people forget this when it comes to individual blogs.

Nothing is going to change around these parts!

  17. @Janice

Orwellian group think is a serious problem these days. Most people today are always looking for conformity instead of appreciating the unique and valuable aspects of individuality.

  18. I never understand these street looks – what self respecting drug dealer, hustler, pimp, area boy wants to look like an abandoned ice cream truck? I’m too old for this shite, frell they’re too old for this shite, don’t get me started on these 40 year olds shagging their asses off ‘cuz they came from the hood…Looking like kids with no lick of common sense or an original thought in their malleable brains…

  19. Adaobi :
I never understand these street looks – what self respecting drug dealer, hustler, pimp, area boy wants to look like an abandoned ice cream truck?

LMAO. I couldn’t stop laughing when I read this. Classic.

  20. the reason why people come back is because the blog is important……. and could be a conduit for change… rather than just somewhere were others can laugh at elements of the culture and bitch and moan about things…. i believe in this blog!
and its participants…… as far as criticism goes!!!… i think its very very wise to not always be defensive when some kind of criticism is made.. even if it made in a unsavoury manner .. look for the point that they make that is valid!!!! is their any validity to the point they attempted to make?

  21. I think the way they responded to you shows two things….. one they are either quite young and newly powerful and dont know when to ease back and chill out and not let things get to them .. and two they may have picked up on a pattern from your tweets janice that you might not be aware of…. which can be seen as quite negative towards music PUBLIC celebs etc!!!
either way…… you can look at it as people chatting bare breeze….. or you can look at it as a moment to reflect and see whether there is any truth to their bizzarrely put rant… AND check yourself……. none of us are above getting checked from time to time…
in this case….. i’m looking at their defensiveness of ashley.. thats neither here nor there!!! they’re a branding outfit someones paying to be made to be to relevent so thats besides the point….
but maybe the thing to look at is the power your blog holds and doing more to showcase the good music and celebs as well as laugh at the foolish ones…
    BALANCE….

  22. @Ty

I hear what you’re saying about balance but if I’m honest that doesn’t really concern me. There are other blogs/sites that provide a good balance (e.g they are passionate about showcasing good music etc). People can go and visit those if they feel this blog is lacking in balance. But ultimately I post what I feel like posting. It all depends on what mood I’m in. Its not everyone’s cup of tea but hey you can’t please everyone.

  23. What’s stopping the people who have a problem with this blog and moan about lack of balance from starting there own blogs????
