The debaters got together with two special guests and discussed how far ethnic jokes can go before they become played out. With the African culture becoming a more popular topic amongst comedians, Babatunde (comedian) also had his own opinion on the matter.
Here are some of the questions and points that were raised and discussed during the debate:
– How far will African jokes go before they get boring?
– Can African jokes reach out to the mainstream?
– Are Ethnic jokes offensive?
– Is there a double standard in ethnic comedy?
…
When comedians are getting on stage telling the same old tired jokes they were telling ten years ago then it’s a problem.
How can Teef say Gina Yashere isn’t funny? Hahahaha. I love that woman. She is FUNNY!
Your thoughts please….
good question!!! will it be a good debate tho!?
Yeh it’s played out when people are using jokes they were using back in real mccoy days, but after watching it, they changed it to ethnic jokes and to be honest I never understand how black people let white and asian come in a take the piss out of them and get paid off them, it makes me sick and there are some jokes that I take very personal
I babatunde talked alot of sense
@Ty
Watch the debate.
White comedian Kevin J is making a decent living telling jokes about black culture, and seems to be on every comedy show bill. The black audience lap up his material and love when he mimics Nigerian men.
Don’t even get me started on Kevin J
Without the black comedians telling these jokes there would be no Kevin J. They influenced, co-signed and paid him. He’s like the dappy fo the black comedy world. He’ll go mainstream, have his own TV show win awards and never thank any of the comics who helped him rise.
The problem with these jokes are the comedians who are telling them. Back in the day the comedians knew how to tell a joke which we could all relate to and find funny. Now they are just offensive and they think they can get away with it because they are african themselves. Offensive is not funny.
I also see Kevin J going on to achieve mainstream success and those comedians will be left behind playing the same old venues, in front of the same audiences and telling the same old jokes.
I agree with you both Melissa and Janice. Kevin J is the great white hope. Anytime you have a white person imitating something black people do well like music they are always a huge success and backed by white people just look at Adele.
When are black people gonna wake up
