UMA (URBAN MUSIC AWARDS) THREATENS MAD NEWS WITH LEGAL ACTION

So today I am sitting on the train minding my own business when I spot the red light on my Blackberry flashing.  A new email had arrived. The badly written email was from a gentleman claiming to be legal counsel for the Urban Music Awards, threatening legal action over a long forgotten news piece that I posted back in July 2009.

Read the email below. I will spare the gentleman the embarrassment by opting to not include his name and company details (which isn’t even a law firm).

Without Prejudice:

Dear Sirs/Madam,

To whom it may concern from Mad News:

It has recently been brought to our attention that your link below purportedly describes that the UMA was under police investigation. Please, we advise you to remove this as soon as possible as ;

1.) The UMA’s has never been under a police investigation in it’s 10 years of operation

2.) No staff at the UMA’s have ever used an MTV e-mail address for sponsors.

As you can appreciate, defamation of character can bring any company into disrepute and your link above has caused damages for our company since 2009 and has only just been discovered today after a client pointed out that this was being written on your website.

I trust all is in order for you to recieve this story asap to avoid any legal action for damages.

I trust all is in order for you to recieve this story asap to avoid any legal action for damages.

What the BACKSIDE does that mean???

Mr “Legal Counsel” claims that the post on Mad News has caused damages to the company since 2009 but then goes on to say that the  3-year-old post was only discovered today (???).

If the post has caused so much damage since 2009 then why are they threatening legal action in February 2012????

Ridiculous!

I have lost count the number of times I have received pathetic emails from so-called legal advisors threatening action over ancient blog posts that nobody gives a toss about.

Bunch of clowns!

  1. Oh no Janice i know you’re going to take that down… I know how scared you are….man this is deep! They are coming at you with the legal system…… You better take this down now….i mean now!!!! I feel for you sister…i know how scared you must be!!!!! ahahahaah! Not! After all this time…. what’s up with that. Hey maybe it’s Lulu hahahaaaaa! Just joking Lulu

  2. Here we go again, how come all these PR, legal, randoms – who always have serious issues with spellcheck – are so observant? Those eagled-eyed rascals, always trying to “sue” J, when she’s forgotten about whatever silly thing they did.

  3. You know, I never normally comment on blogs, but I’m a real pedant when it comes to spelling and grammar, and this letter is an absolute joy to rip apart…

    1. To whom it may concern FROM Mad News – I think they mean “to whom it may concern AT Mad News”

    2. “…your link purportedly describes…” < Why only purportedly? Can't they read? It either does or it doesn't.

    3. Then they refer to UMA as UMA, when elsewhere in the email they refer to it as the UMA's. This is also wrong because it's a plural, therefore the apostrophe is not needed as that usually denotes possession.

    4. "…we advise you to remove this as soon as possible as;…" << Incorrect use of a semi-colon. A plain old colon would do.

    5. "The UMA's (sic) has…" << If it's plural it should be HAVE

    6. "…has never been under a police investigation" << You're either "under police investigation" or "subject to a police investigation"

    7. "…it's ten year history" OH MY GOODNESS. ITS = possession IT'S = IT IS. These things are basic grammar rules, bogus law firm people.

And the second half of the email is just so ridiculous, I don't EVEN HAVE THE ENERGY to proceed, and that is saying something.

Thank you for this laugh, Janice. The UMA's/UMA/UMAs – whoever they are – really need to reconsider a new law firm. If this is the standard of their email correspondence, I'd love to see them in a courtroom.

  4. This is such a slack jawed and sloppy attempt at a legal correspondent. Obviously this mockery was drafted up by some beef head in his bedroom attempting to flex some of his legal knowledge or more the lack of as is clearly evident in this case. This idiot deserves a dunce cap, 30 stripes and to be tar and feathered for such insolence and stupidity.
