QUOTE OF THE DAY: ZOE SALDANA

“We have a Black president right now so why the f**k would I sit down and talk about how hard it is for black women in Hollywood when there’s a Black president in my country?”

“When I go after a part, [people] better watch their backs. Not because I’m going to crush everybody, but because I’m going to give the best that I can because I strive for excellence. When you don’t get a part, it is for a reason, and these pieces will fall into place soon.”

[Actress Zoe Saldana talks about being a black woman in Hollywood in the September issue of Ebony Magazine]

Good luck Zoe!

  1. Oh Zoe Saldana, I guess that means then, that all those native Black folk in South Africa cant complain about enduring poverty because the country is “supposedly” run by black people now. White folk there complain they have to compete with everyone now and some have moved to shanty towns. Yet majority of wealth is where still. Exclusive gated communities are 99.9% full of who exactly.

Black women are free to complain as they please. If they stopped things will work in reverse. These LSLH women always try to throw shade when they make it. It is just like the middle and upper middle classes who despise those beneath them who have nothing and get crumbs thrown at them by the government. Take them blinkers off. Yes celebrate that you would do anything for fame and are doing well in your career and accept that other folk will have their limits as not everyone wants crush everybody. Also Zoe child you need to accept that sometimes the reason is simply the colour of someone’s skin why they did not get the part.

And it is because of all those before you who complained and still carry the torch why you get to even act in hollywood and not some whiter person in blackface doing your job.

  2. Having black president almost means nothing, it means something but not everything. He is a symbol who is only there because people fought, complained and lost lives. Don’t ever forget where you come from, because when shit hits the fan, everybody will be talking especially us black folks. And people don’t forget either.

  3. Zoë is still green, still wet behind the ears!
Hard work does not always pay in life for allot of reasons. In the past and I don’t doubt that even to this day, some of these reasons often include genetics.

Fact: When Hale Berry was at the height of her career, even when she played lead roles she was paid less than half what white, lesser known actresses where paid.

Many Black fashion models have complained (post 2008 Vouge Italia) that they get paid less than other races for jobs. Inequality still exists.

If i was casting Zoë probably wouldn’t get the job, Not because she’s black or ignorant but because I feel she is not a top quality actress and I honestly thing she slightly resembles a troll toy, starved and in human form.

Even if she hasn’t been touched by racism in Hollywood herself, she ought not vehemently rubbish other peoples experience blaming them for their lack of progress, which in a round about way, she appears to be doing.

  4. Listen Avatar! (aka Zoe “Can barely act” Saldana)
Let’s see if your saying that this time next year
We all know that as an actor, your only as good as your last movie.
If she is fortunate enough to have a successful career over a number of years, then maybe I would understand her point. But the movie game is fickle, one minute your in, the next your out. I hope for her sake that she will be this confident if Hollywood choose to put her out to pasture, because the next lighter, younger and better actress (which shouldn’t be hard!) has come along to (how did she put it) “crush” her.

  5. Poor girl – shot down by everyone! I think she’s an average actress yes but I do think it’s a refreshing change to have a black latina around unlike what we usually see representing latina women – j-lo, eva mendes, that rodriguez woman etc. What she says to the press and what she really thinks are probably 2 different things. If she was to talk about the struggle, it wouldn’t go down well with her hollywood counterparts and to be honest, she’s probably more concerned about herself and paying her bills rather than the plight of black people!

  6. Zo!! Has major issues…one minute she is not Black. Then she is Latina..but not Black.. But all her rolls are for someone Black. She sucks!!! Now she is Black ….come on Zo i read a lot of Spanish mags….so keep it moving…. Not remotely interested…. She has no clue about Hollywood and being Black in hollywood…but she will soon learn…they all do…
