I keep hearing positive things about Jay-Z’s protegé J Cole but I never bothered listening to any of his work until his new single Work Out landed in my inbox late last night.
The track – He opens singing the chorus to Paula Abdul’s ’89’ hit debut single Straight Up which threw me a little. I don’t think Work Out is a particularly strong single, it’s bubblegum Hip Hop which is clearly geared towards a mainstream audience.
I wonder if it was his choice to record and release this as a single?

Here we go again. J Cole has to be real careful here because he could just mess up years of hardwork working the underground with this kinda song. I don’t know the record industry just follows the same formula. I love his mixtapes but this is………… all I can do is shake my head
