VIDEO: BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL ‘DARK GIRLS’ DOCUMENTARY (PREVIEW) / MY THOUGHTS

———————————————————————————————-

This makes me so angry. The black community still has some serious issues when it comes to people who have dark skin complexions within the community.

It’s 2011. This foolishness has got to stop people!

And as for the cretin who says he thinks dark-skinned girls “look funny standing next to me”, he deserves one bitch lick across his stupid face. But it’s this same kind of attitude that’s also prevalent here in the UK. You have dark-skinned men in this country, some darker than midnight, who look down in disgust at black women who share the same beautiful complexion as themselves.  WHAT IS THAT ALL ABOUT???  What exactly do these men see when they look at themselves in the mirror???

I have come to the conclusion that these sad, lost, confused idiots clearly have low self-esteem, harbour some form of  self-hatred and view ‘dark’ as being ugly (including themselves) . Having a light-skinned woman or someone of mixed heritage on their arm psychologically makes them feel better about their whole existence on this earth.

All I can do is pity them.

Anyway rant over!

Your thoughts please….

  1. I wasn’t going to watch the video as this light skin/dark skin topic in our community, has been blogged, discussed, documented, and portrayed to death. I really do try and stay away from this issue as it a very sensitive one and also one I don’t believe will ever change. When we are long gone from this earth and you fast forward to ‘X’ amount of years later, the same problems that these women face are still going to be here. I think that’s my main reason when I saw this post that I was going to skim over it. It’s been brought to our attention on so many levels, but hasn’t really changed the narrow minded attitudes of many.

Saying that, I’m writing this part way through the documentary and feel saddened that these women have/are going through this and that our children already have it drummed into them (like that little girl) that “light is right” and anything darker is dumb, wrong and ugly. As much as I believe this issue won’t ever be a non-issue, these people do have a right to tell their story, and if it helps to widen the mind of one ingrate then the purpose has been served.

    Thanks for posting Janice.

  2. I wasn’t going to watch. I thought its the same old same old, and it will only make me angry. But then I gave in… Its upsetting and just sad. And you’re right this dumb mentality within the community isn’t going anywhere.

  3. LMBAO!!!!!!!!!!!! And the reason I’m laughing so hard is because this is some bill shit!!!! And because i knew when i read the article Janice it was some AFRICAN AMERICAN BULL SHIT! I just knew it! And now I’m no longer laughing! I think is so sad and shameful that this is still going on. What it all comes down to is self esteem. And what i mean by that is…I’m not valued by the color of my skin. Now that is something my parents taught me. But ido understand how some Blacks feel..because i am a Black man in the USA. And i still hear this foolishness from time to time. But me being who i am i jump right on it! This as the on lady said residue from the slavery times. You had the house negro and the field negro. But whats sad about it is….peoples parents perpetuated this same kind of bull. Black people as a whole no matter where we are in this world have been brain washed. They fall for all the images that they see in front of them. The media tells you what is beautiful and you buy into it. The media tells you how you should look…or what is acceptable to wear and you do it. This all part of the problem! Just as this article Janice did on the guy wanting to wear his corn rolls to school. Now i haven’t commented on it yet…but i will get around to that as well. He has every right to wear his hair which ever way he wants. Now if it said from the beginning that everyone must have a low cut then cool. But when ever some Black wears something that they deem is a gang thing…then you can;t do that. But ever other ethic group can wear their hair the way they want. I’m just saying this because there is a double standard. But we seem to be OK with that. Now i have never seen a more beautiful woman anywhere in the world than a Dark sister! The problem is…is that we as Blacks have been taught that being dark is a negative. So we go on with our lives in that belief. Then we pass it on to our children…and the beat goes on and on… This is one of the many reasons i don’t support others…or others that choose to marry others. I say this because it tells me you have falling for what you have heard. And no so much…because you fall in love with whom you fall in love with. But most of our people believe that they have arrived if they have a white or light person on their arms. We will never get past these type of issues because there is so much self hate in our community! It kind of hurt me when i realized that our Black people in the UK was just as bad!!! I knew the ignorance was here in the USA….but i was hoping it was different there, But that’s not the case either. I see self hate is everyone in our community no matter the country. I cannot respect anyone who scream Black Pride and you have other on your arm. Some may say that is too harsh….but i don’t see it like that. If you’re so proud of being Black why not marry Black!! Now don’t get this wrong…if you fall in love with someone because he/she is a good person…then by all means go for it!! What I’m saying is some of us Black people set out to do this because it builds their self esteem! Black women are the most beautiful women in the world. But the media tells us and everyone else they are not.. And we as Blacks buy it hook line and sinker. Now the Black women in this clip i feel sorry for. Only because i can feel their pain! It comes across so vividly! But more so the fact that they still feel that they don’t measure up! The director Bill Duke has been around for years…like for the 70’s. I read about him awhile ago..and he is as Black as my shoe. But i need to see the entire documentary to make a full assessment of this. Then you have that punk dude saying Dark girls don’t look good beside him… what a waste of film!! I hope everyone that knows him give him hell after seeing this. But he my be super ignorant…and might not care.lol! My whole problem with this is Black women on a hole is constantly dogged by the media and by other Black men. And it’s not cool and it’s not fair!! And we as Black people have to do something to stop this kind of disrespect and bigotry and hatred toward our Black woman. For all the Black Beautiful women on this site…don’t let what others think about you…define how you feel about yourslef. You’re so much more than anyone can tell you.. And your beauty is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!! More to come because i’ve seen so much bull on this topic

  4. I seem to remember that this mentality goes back to the plantations during slavery, where the lighter your skin was, the more so called “favour” was bestowed upon you. Since it was the so called European man that instilled this foolish thinking into our people, it doesn’t take 2 guesses to pinpoint the origin of this resurrection. Where I do not disagree with the fact that this type of mentality still exists in our community, I have to question the odd timing of this topic. As usual Verbs suspects the JewISH hand at work here. Anything to keep our people divided, especially now that the so called Negro is awaking to his true heritage in record numbers.

  5. ‘You have dark-skinned men in this country, some darker than midnight, who look down in disgust at black women who share the same beautiful complexion as themselves. WHAT IS THAT ALL ABOUT??? What exactly do these men see when they look at themselves in the mirror???’

    Really??? hahaha

  6. LOOOOOL. hahahaha..that is ridiculous. I bet they look at their mamas and siblings and relatives in the same manner. the other pproblem we sometimes have is when people come to these majority white countries and all of a sudden feel that they need to upgrade themselves. Upgrading themselves in skin colour by bleaching, getting married to white people and having mixed race kids (by the way i am not saying all do that because some do it genuinely out of love, talking about a certain kind of mentality among some), and then going back to their majority black people and are taken in high esteem because they are married to white people and have white kids(that’s what it is for some). I have said this before, and i will say t again, white race to some people is a sign of wealth, and this mentality right here is a killer nad affects us even economically in so many ways.

    Right you are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. And funny enough, when many of the men go for the upgrading style by marrying white people, they tend to suffer most, having affairs with black women (surely we have to be better than just side dishes, anyway), going back to their home countries and marrying black wives over there(obviously they are missing something) and ofcourse since we all look alike, they end up passing us on as their sisters*cheap trick, but anyhoo* and then in the long run, their lives become complicated and a mess and destroyed. Then they end up blaming the black woman while running to the black woman for understanding. But you know what, sometimes we take crap and allow it, and only have ourselves to blame.

  9. This is shallowness at best. We are all black, light skinned or dark skinned. What really happens when these fools give birth to dark skinned babies? Do they see them as unattractive and ugly? Do they know that even when you get married to a white person and you are dark skinned, you can easilly give birth to a darkskinned mixed race child? And then what? You distance yourself from that child or treat them differently? If you don’t love yourself, how on earth are you going to love your children and even teach them to love themselves and everyone else or even teach them to break this foolish way of thinking?
