UK NEWS: WOMAN SHOT BY POLICE THAT SPARKED THE 1985 BRIXTON RIOTS DIES

Dorethy ‘Cherry’ Groce who was shot and left paralyzed from the waist down by police in 1985, has died. Some hours later this incident went on to spark the second Brixton riots.

Website Operation Black Vote reports that Cherry died on the 25 April (Easter Sunday) surrounded by family members.

For 26 years Cherry courageously battled with numerous complications caused by the shooting. Although her life expectancy was only 10 years she continued to be an active central figure in her family and an inspiration to many and her life will stand as a testament to being strong and dignified through adversity, passing on a legacy for many to learn, follow and benefit from. A truly remarkable woman!

Cherry is survived by her mother, 3 sisters, 8 children, 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

  1. this is really sad… i hop ethe family have strengh. and i hope the british media have the decency to follow up and talk about it a little more….. as her case is quite a serious moment in british history….. whether they chose to acknkowledge it or not!! ….
