RAPPER NAS SENDS ANGRY EMAIL TO ISLAND DEF JAM EXECUTIVES

My future play thing Nas isn’t very happy with his label bosses.

Check out the email he ‘allegedly’ sent to Island Def Jam executives regarding the release of his new album Lost Tapes 2.

Subject: PUT MY S**T OUT!

Peace to all,

With all due respect to you all, Nas is NOBODY’s slave. This is not the 1800′s, respect me and I will respect you.

I won’t even tap dance around in an email, I will get right into it. People connect to the Artist @ the end of the day, they don’t connect with the executives. Honestly, nobody even cares what label puts out a great record, they care about who recorded it. Yet time and time again its the executives who always stand in the way of a creative artist’s dream and aspirations. You don’t help draw the truth from my deepest and most inner soul, you don’t even do a great job @ selling it. The #1 problem with DEF JAM is pretty simple and obvious, the executives think they are the stars. You aren’t…. not even close. As a matter of fact, you wish you were, but it didn’t work out so you took a desk job. To the consumer, I COME FIRST. Stop trying to deprive them! I have a fan base that dies for my music and a RAP label that doesn’t understand RAP. Pretty f**ked up situation

This isn’t the 90′s though. Beefing with record labels is so 15 years ago. @ this point I just need you all to be very clear where I stand and how I feel about “my label.” I could go on twitter or hot 97 tomorrow and get 100,000 protesters @ your building but I choose to walk my own path my own way because since day one I have been my own man. I did business with Tommy Mottola and Donnie Einer, two of the most psycho dudes this business ever created. I worked well with them for one major reason……. they believed in me. The didn’t give a f**k about what any radio station or magazine said….those dudes had me.

Lost Tapes is a movement and a very important set up piece for my career as it stands. I started this over 5 years ago @ Columbia and nobody knew what it was or what it did but the label put it out as an LP and the fans went crazy for it and I single handlely built a new brand of rap albums. It’s smart and after 5 years it’s still a head of the game. This feels great and you not feeling what I’m feeling is disturbing. Don’t get in the way of my creativity. We are aligned with the stars here, this is a movement. There is a thing called KARMA that comes to haunt you when you tamper with the aligning stars. WE ARE GIVING THE PEOPLE EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANT. Stop throwing dog s**t on a MAGICAL moment.

You don’t get another Nas recording that doesn’t count against my deal….PERIOD! Keep your bulls**t $200,000.00 fund. Open the REAL budget. This is a New York pioneers ALBUM, there ain’t many of us. I am ready to drop in the 4th quarter. You don’t even have shit coming out! Stop being your own worst enemy. Let’s get money!

I wonder who is responsible for leaking this email……

Anyway OVER TO YOU DEF JAM!

  1. He is right in a lot of ways, Def Jam have well and truly fell off since Russell, Lyor and Kevin Liles left. Where Nas stated nobody checks for what label it is releasing the album, people did use to care about an album being released on Def Jam but those days are well and truly over! What about where he says he has a label that doesn’t understand RAP, Def Jam used to be THE hip hop label and it has been ruined!

Lost Tapes 2 will see the light of day one way another and I can’t wait!

  2. Nasir Jones I love you dearly, you are the best rapper ever bar none but you have the worst management and advisors in the world. Why sign to Def Jam only for Jay to up and leave your ass there? Why dont you have your own label? I said LABEL not an imprint where you dont even have control over the release schedule. How long have you been doing this? What do you have to show for it? Thank you sooooo much for the music, it will live forever, obviously the new generation will never top what you have done, When they are lowering me to my grave ‘Hate Me Now’ will be playing, But judging by the way you have run ‘Nas – The Brand’ thus far I just hope you have enough money left to buy a headstone after Kelis is done!

  3. Sometimes in life you make your bed and you are then destined to lie init,… I will always think about what 50 said one time in regards to nas,… when he had the Bravehearts and Oochi Walley was popping off left right and centre the buzz was incredible, but he let it die and it fizzled out… Nas had an oppurtunity to do what 50 did with G-Unit with him [Nas] and the Bravehearts, but perhaps he never had the business mind, perhaps it’s other factors, but one thing for sure is that Nas has never reached the hieghts he could have or status within rap.

  4. NaS is a great artist. One of the greatest ever but he’s never been the greatest business man, the day Steve Stoute stopped being his manager (after I AM and the “hate me now” days) it was pretty much over business-wise for him. Without Steve Nas wouldn’t have even made the transition from “illmatic” which was a classic but didn’t sell to “it was written” that sold and commercially blew him up!

Not all artists are business savvy but if you’re not, great management is a MUST!!!! Not all artists have what it takes to own and run a label but get business minded folks in your team Nas!!!!!

  5. Nas… u r the best rapper EVER! F**k what every1 on this planet says. Its just the illuminati tryn to hold u bak from ur future plans. Ima ride with u. I know about everything u were saying on ur song “testify” on the untitle album. they want control ova our minds and soul. but we r gods…we control everything. We r aligned with the stars. Peace!

  6. Nas is an artist. No more no less. His hits were unorthodox. His beat selection were sometimes bugged out, but because of the artist he is he made it work. When u have an artist like this, you have to let him do him. Business wise, I think he’s not interested. Def Jam should let him be the artist he wants to be and back him up. He has loyal fans that will continue to support him. I wish i was able to get some beats to him. I have some beats that will revolutionize his being. Hollar at me Nasir.
