Two police officers have been killed and six others wounded in unrest in Jamaica’s capital Kingston, police said.
They had been responding to a call for help from a female motorist on Sunday night when they were shot.
Supporters of alleged local drug lord Christopher “Dudus” Coke have taken to the streets in protest at attempts to extradite him to the US.
A state of emergency has been declared in parts of Kingston.
Prime Minister Bruce Golding has denounced the unrest as a “calculated assault on the authority of the state that cannot be tolerated”.
He said security forces would be “moving swiftly to bring the current situation under control”.
“Criminal elements bent on violence and mayhem will be detained,” he said in a televised address
This is what happens when corrupt politicians get in to bed with low life criminals.
Prime Minister Bruce Golding is a waste of space and should be forced to resign, and Dudus should give himself up.

I feel sorry for all those misguided ‘Dudus’ supporters, who my cousin tells me have appeared on Jamaican television in support of the man, shouting “ah fi we presi, ah fi we presi” (translation – he’s our president).
And just seen on BBC News, a dog with a sign tied to it’s side saying “Jesus died for us and we will die for Dudus”.
They say he helps the poor people in the poverty-stricken Tivoli Gardens. He gives the residents money and has helped to send their children to school.
They rely on this ‘Don’ because Bruce Golding’s government has failed them.
If the Jamaican government looked after all it’s citizens adequately, then the residents of Tivoli Gardens wouldn’t be bowing down at the feet of a drug lord, risking their own necks to protect him, and calling him their “saviour” and president.
I just hope the unrest comes to an end soon.

Jamaica has a fonctional juduciary system.Just because a lot of things go ultra wrong there doesn’t mean they can’t handle a situation like this. I can’t believe the French TV made a special 25 mn report on this.
