When I first heard Plan B sing on Tonight With Jonathan Ross I was stunned. I thought he was a rapper. Plan B, old misery guts rapper from East London, when did he become a “soul” singer???
Anyway the rapper, “singer” and actor’s latest album The Defamation Of Strickland Banks has shot straight to number 1 in the UK album chart.
If your face fits and you add a bit of an old skool soul vibe in to the mix you’re always guaranteed a top-selling album in this country.
Plan B appeared on the very selective Later With Jools Holland last week and performed his current single Stay Too Long.
Your thoughts please. Can Plan B sing?

Phase II for the British ‘ethnically challlenged’popstar as suggested by management- soul, live band, gospel choir or all three =credibility
Will be hailed as the ‘new James Brown’ in the mainstream press..
Phase III – the sexualised, ‘I’m my own person now and no one can tell me anything’ with a super euro poppy number -possibly a raunchy vid where Plan B get s to show off the pecs he has worked out on and in interviews will proclaim that ‘soul and grime isn’t the only thing he likes’
Phase IV- (assuming he keeps the likes of GMTV and Showbiz well oiled with sensationalist news) a trip to America for bigger things…
Phase V- The return from America and possible cameo on Casualty
Sorry, can he sing? of course not!
Does it matter? Of course not!
The band are clearly jobbing musicians probably gritting their teeth thinking about their next serious gig where they actually get to support someone who can sing.
“the new James Brown” … oh dear LOL!!!
This aint that bad. He’s not a great singer. This soul move by this guy is actually a smart business move. I can’t knock the hustle lol
I actually like his style. Not the best singer, but enjoy the concept of his album.
