UK MUSIC: SWAY FT DONAE’O – ‘POP A BOTTLE’

Rapper Sway’s new single featuring Donae’O  Pop A Bottle is your typical “urban” mainstream track designed to infiltrate the UK single chart. It will sell. Donae’O sings he wants a “Coca Cola bottle shape”.   Singing about wanting a woman with a Coca Cola bottle shape is  so Reggae/Dancehall circa ‘1992’. The video – Well it’s not particularly original. Woman dancing in a nightclub, champagne and silhouette shots. Yeah seen it all before. Pop A Bottle will be released July 12th on iTunes. []

VIDEO: KELLY ROWLAND – ‘COMMANDER’

Singer Kelly Rowland performed her new single Commander at the Winter Music Conference. This track has just been released and Kelly is out there working to promote it. I like Kelly and I actually like the track. I just want to see this woman WIN! But I am beginning to think that others who class themselves as being family/friends don’t. Solange Knowles has just “conveniently” announced that she’s written a song for her sister Beyonce and posted the video (sneak peek) on []

VIDEO: TONI BRAXTON – YESTERDAY

Toni Braxton’s new single Yesterday will be released here in the UK on May 3rd, and her album Pulse will drop on May 10th. The single in my opinion sounds lacklustre. Toni’s other track Hands Tied is well produced and is a hundred times better than this. Yesterday (in parts) also sounds like Beyonce’s Halo. The video – It looks like it was hastily put together. Toni should fire her make-up artist, and it doesn’t look like much thought went in to []

UK MUSIC: LEE RYAN – SECRET LOVE

Former Blue boy band member Lee Ryan has released the video to his latest solo effort Secret Love. Via Social Writers Blog I laughed when I first heard this track, but it has the potential to grow on me like fungus. It’s very catchy. The video – Lee features a very attractive black woman as his love interest in this video, while black British male artists will probably go as far as having one of their boy’s pose as a love interest []

NEW MUSIC: DRAKE – ‘OVER’

Check out the over-rated Drake’s new single ‘Over’. I still fail to understand what all the fuss is about. What is so fantastic about this man? People seem to be wetting themselves over his latest musical effort, when in fact the track is mediocre at best! I’m sorry but everytime I see Drake’s face I remember what the great Public Enemy taught me all those years ago…. “DON’T BELIEVE THE HYPE!”. Your thoughts please. Hit or miss?

UK MUSIC: TY – ‘EMOTIONS’

“Emotions” featuring Sarina Leah and Shaun Escoffery (release date 16th March 2010), is the debut single from UK hip hop legend Ty’s forthcoming album “Special Kind of Fool” on BBE. An uplifting bubbler featuring Ty’s trademark candor and inimitable flow, it’s an infectious dance floor music track, with depth. Look out for the remixes from heavyweight producers including Daz-I-Kue, Waajeed, Dego (4Hero) and Akwasi.   “Emotions” is also Mista Jam’s “Jam Hot” single of the week, and he will be chatting to Ty on his Radio 1Xtra []

UK NEWS: SINGER JAVINE HYLTON PREPARES ‘COME BACK’

Singer Javine Hylton is hoping to make a ‘come back’ by appearing on the popular Channel 4  cooking show Celebrity Come Dine With Me, and also plans to release a new single. The singer’s rep disclosed to Overground Online ,  ‘Javine’s feeling really positive about 2010. ‘She’ll soon begin work on a music project with a well known producer, and is releasing brand new material later this year.’ I wonder who the “well known producer” is? Could it be Pharrell? Dr Dre? Just Blaze? Rodney Jerkins??? The []

NEW MUSIC: ALEXANDRA BURKE FT FLO-RIDA – ‘BAD BOYS’

When I first spotted this promo shot of Alexandra on the front cover of The Daily Mirror several days ago I thought it was Ciara. Anyway…. X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke’s debut single Bad Boys premiered on Chris Moyles’ BBC Radio 1 breakfast show today and it’s what I expected – poppy and geared towards the mainstream pre-teen /teen market. Bad Boys with assistance from Flo-Rida will therefore be a huge hit worldwide! However the track does sound like it should have been released circa 97 / 98.  But it is actually quite catchy. []
