The Voice reports that Scotland’s first black university professor, Geoffrey Palmer  will be knighted for services to human rights, science and charity. Jamaican-born Palmer is a professor emeritus at Edinburgh’s of Heriot-Watt University and specialises in cereal and grain science. UK NEWS: VICTIM OF FATAL NIGHTCLUB SHOOTING NAMED BY POLICE

ITV news reports the victim of a fatal nightclub shooting in London’s West End has been named as Hassan Isman Omer. The 31 year old man from Poplar was shot at a private function inside the Avalon nightclub on Shaftesbury Avenue in the early hours of Thursday morning. Hassan suffered multiple gunshot wounds and later died in hospital. Two men, aged 31 and 34, arrested on suspicion of murder have been bailed until February, as inquiries continue. It has been confirmed that hit 1990s groups Eternal and Damage will join ‘The Big Reunion’ 2014 line up.
