My regular readers will already know that I dutifully showcase UK talent on Mad News (UK Black Music – The Good, The Bad and the Ugly). But the majority of UK talent featured so far has been of the worst kind, and ultimately end up in my Ugly file. I have to admit though I do find below par UK talent highly amusing, which could explain why I have created a platform for such mediocrity (lol!) However, recently I’ve been thinking, […]
I see that the UK’s now jumping on the vocoder bandwagon……… Anyway Wiley, Kano and Ghetts attempt to get their sexy on in the video and on this track for the ladies. The video and the track make me smile…….. Plus I am in SHOCK right now… a UK music video featuring male black artists, and they have actually hired black women to appear in the video alongside them. For once they haven’t been relegated the background!!!!! Also in one scene Ghetts is sitting next to a gorgeous dark skinned sista. Wow… First […]
Sorry I’ve been a bit slow on the updates. It was a slow news day yesterday and the Virgin Media Broadband service is currently experiencing technical difficulties in my area. Anyway I am back online for now, so check out the BET (UK Edition) Cypher featuring Giggs, Skepta, Chipmunk and Ghetto. Hmmmmmm this is pretty lacklustre….. Your thoughts please……
Betty Boo – ‘Doin The Do’ ( Circa 1990) Betty Boo (real name Alison Clarkson) started her career with late 80s Hip Hop group The She Rockers. She then became a moderately successful solo act in the early 90s and released numerous singles that reached the Top Ten in the UK chart. I remember at the height of her fame Betty said that she was once a fan of Salt ‘n’ Pepa, but went off them when they became mainstream and effectively sold out. This in my opinion was […]
What can I say about siblings The Wee Papa Girl Rappers…. They were the poor man’s Salt ‘n’ Pepa UK style. They were MAINSTREAM!!!!! I wasn’t a fan at all! But they did manage to walk away with two top ten hit singles under their belts back in the late 80s, and if my memory serves me correctly their debut album didn’t do too badly either…… ‘We Rule’ Circa 1988 ‘Heat It Up’ Circa 1988 I wonder where they are now……
READ This has been on the cards for about a year and a half now. I guess now it’s “official”. Well… this will be interesting. Actually this union could prove to be a successful one for Sway. He’s a grafter and will make it work. Unlike some UK artists I could mention (ahem.. ahem.. Wiley), who sign to majors/their subsidiaries and then head for the hills when it suddenly dawns on them that they will be expected to WORK!!!!
After her first solo album flopped and she was subsequently dropped from her label (Polydor), singer Alesha Dixon has been given a second chance via Asylum Records…. Via BBC News Strictly Come Dancing champion Alesha Dixon says she feels “blessed” to be releasing a solo album after previously being dropped by her record label. The 29-year-old, who was in girl group Mis-Teeq, was dropped as a solo artist by Polydor in 2006 before being offered a new contract after winning the show. […]
? Which delusional London based Hip Hop act tried to play at being gangsters Stateside, but ended up returning to their old London neighbourhood, with their tails firmly placed in between their legs? Four years ago this act could be seen rolling alongside some of the biggest US Hip Hop acts, receiving major props and steadily drinking in the promise, that they would become the next big thing to come out of the UK. The future looked oh so […]
