A mosque has been praised for serving tea and biscuits to English Defence League supporters after the far-right group arranged a demonstration there.
About six people turned up to protest at the mosque in Bull Lane, York, on Sunday and were invited inside to play football with worshippers.
More than 100 supporters of the mosque had gone there after learning of the planned EDL protest.
Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu said the mosque’s response was “fantastic”.
He said: “Tea, biscuits, and football are a great and typically Yorkshire combination when it comes to disarming hostile and extremist views.” Continue Reading…
I would have served those protestors something but it would not have been tea and biscuits.
This is a classic example of ‘killing them with kindness’, but I would not have it in me to do what those worshippers did. Tea, biscuits and inviting them inside for a game of football is not going to change the twisted EDL mind set or their destructive agenda. So those worshippers would be wise not to let their guards down .
I know what the EDL are about and what they stand for. I would therefore refuse to befriend, bow down or have any type of discussion with those ignorant racist cretins.

I applaud their efforts.
Keep your friends close, and your enemies CLOSER.
LOL
Sad to be applauded for being pacifists in the face of such vile racist thugs. I agree I wouldn’t have had it in me to that either.
From some of the picture’s that i saw, these were not your typical EDL supporters/followers. They mostly looked like your local retired types. Now if it was the type that looked like extras from the film Football Factory and were all throwing the old nazi salutes, this story would have been very very different.
By the way, welcome back Janice.
