Interesting, he spoke to a good mix of people. My personally opinon is, England likes to think it’s more liberal and open than America when it comes to race, but it’s not, it’s just surpressed in public, but comes out behind closed doors, on the faceless internet or in jokes that really aren’t funny. I grew up around white people I’ve heard them all.
I still know white people who swear they aren’t racist, and they have black friends, but won’t go to any place where they are outnumbered by black people through fear.
The black guy talking at 3.40 rapper Skeme talks alot of sense. The white girls talking from 0.29 live in a dreamworld. I’ve watched other sterotypes before but I think this was a lil bit wishy washy and the guy wasn’t funny, ( the tea jokes have really got to stop) but as a whole I liked it.
Have a look at the ‘StereoTypes London – Love & Hip Hop’ as well. It’s also quite interesting. The question of race relations in London comes up again at 4:45
I agree scratch below the surface it is there, we live in a counttry that thrives on passive aggression, 2 facedness and fake politeness. I didn’t expect anything different when I watched it!
Ice Queen , you say it best. Sammy Davis Junior said it about Britain and racism back in the day. To paraphrase, he said something like ” a British man will say we don’t have racism like in the U.S”. Sammy wasn’t having it, considering that when he saw Black people over here, we were doing the worst jobs and living in the worst areas. Just like today (with middle class black people, but no black middle class) “black ” people are seen to be behind the times and stupidly holding onto “racial identity”. This is the opinion of liberal commentator Yasmin Alibhai-Brown. So we “join” on and integrate and still be broke and bottom. Who has “integrated” more than the afro caribbean man. He has taken on inordinate amount of poor white women, given her beautiful brown babies and sexual confidence that white men of her class wasn’t going to give her. However, afro caribbean men are the top of the negative polls, that is, even with the Bangladeshi immigrants who came over in large numbers AFTER US . The passive aggression is what is making me stick to my ten year plan to leave this country. And I will not be going to jamaica. Too much personality traits in common with the English, hypocrisy and badmind and passive aggression being but three of the prominent traits that do not a healthy nation make. No amount of sunshine will blind me to that. The colonisation of Jamaica should have stopped with the Spanish. At least they wouldn’t have a deluded sense of superiority like the English in spite of much evidence to the contrary. It aint cool living amongst people who do not respect their own happiness and do the most to sabotage it and others and yet nobody is meant to call out effery when one sees it. That goes for England and Jamaica and any other country that has class warfare, passive aggression, snobbery and reverse snobbery and very bad mental health as “culture” and not a national concern.
