Will Smith took in the sights and sounds of Brixton today, accompanied by local Labour MPs Tessa Jowell and “Britain’s answer to Barack Obama” Chuka Umunna.

Will Smith made a surprise appearance in Brixton today with local Tessa Jowell and Chuka Umunna.
It emerged the Fresh Prince of Bell Air star wanted to stay true to his character’s roots and see the “real London”.
Tessa Jowell, MP for neighbouring Dulwich and West Norwood, tweeted earlier to say: “Will Smith wanted to see ‘London’s Harlem’! So proud to show him the best of Brixton!” and MP for Streatham Chuka Umunna said: “Will wanted to see “real” London and it doesn’t get more real than Lambeth.”
Haha those girls will never forget his surprise visit.
Will has visited London on many occasions throughout the years so I am surprised to hear that this was the first time he had expressed an interest in visiting Brixton. Anyway thank God for politicians like Tessa and Chuka who were on hand to arrange his first ever visit to the area. I am sure there was no hidden political agenda here.

I too, am surprised that after all the visits that Will has made to the UK, this is the first time he’s expressed a desire to see the ‘real London’ or even ‘London’s Harlem’. Maybe he’s been watching a few grime vids on YouTube!

I have lived in Brixton all my life. At one point (about 20yrs ago) you could have argued that Brixton is indeed the “Harlem of London”, but now Brixton is so gentrified (yes, the white people dem reach) it cannot lay claim to that lol (shouts out to “Yardies” dem that put Brixton on the map lol)
It was lovely that Will went to see the kids at the school though. I remember when MC Hammer was at the height of his fame, and he went to Stockwell Park School. That wasnt me school, but I know all the other schools in South London were pissed, because a) that school was shite b) he never came to their school. My cousin went to Stockwell Park, and on the day MC Hammer came to the school, he was “bunking” off (FAST LOL) He was not amused!
aww man why he never visit when I was at school. St Martins is my old school. I would have been going crazy too. bless
