Also the NRA has been doing political donations (millions) for years, so NO they are not gonna change the gun law anytime soon.
Utter rubbish, laws have never prevented guns from getting into the hands of criminals. Handguns were banned here in the UK in 1997, has this prevented the criminals from getting guns thereafter up until today? NO! These stupid celebrities ought to investigate the histories of the populations in different countries under various regimes who have had their guns confiscated(because that is where the US government ultimately wants to go with this) and examine the end results(Hitler – Nazi Germany, Stalin – Russia, Mao – China, Pot – Cambodia just to name a few).
The other obvious point to mention here is that it is now surface knowledge and widely known that the governments of the UK and especially the US have been caught red handed distributing guns to criminal factions(google Operation Fast And Furious as one example). If they desire to stop illegal guns then they need to look at themselves first.

Another issue here is why should all Americans have put down their guns because of one fruit cake? It doesn’t make any sense. However, once the legislation is written into law they always expand on the legislation and continue to bring more related laws to the table, putting more meat on the bone as you might say.
Before you know it you have a classic sitting duck scenario, exactly like we have in the UK today, the government, the police, private security and the military/army all have the guns and Joe Bloggs has nothing, no form of formidable defence, ALL GUNS are banned. Now, when the government decides to turn these forces on the general public(don’t think it will not happen, it has ALWAYS happened in the past, history always repeats itself), how will you defend yourself????? This is the real and ultimate purpose of the gun, a last ditch defence against a rogue and corrupted government. The government of the UK is totally corrupt and has taken away the people’s last weapons of defence against it.
