This news surprised me. I didn’t think she would win. Via BBC News Rapper Speech Debelle is the surprise winner of the Mercury Prize for the best British album of the past year. Her debut Speech Therapy, released last month, has not appeared in the UK album chart but sales will get a huge boost from her win. CASTER SEMENYA TO KEEP GOLD MEDAL

Via BBC News Caster Semenya will not be stripped of her World Championships 800m gold medal whatever the outcome of her gender test results, BBC Sport understands. The testing process is unlikely to be concluded for two weeks but the IAAF – the governing body of world athletics – says Semenya can keep her medal. Continue Reading……. Well that’s a relief!

MOVIE TRAILER: ‘PRECIOUS’

Based on the novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire, critically acclaimed film ‘Precious’ starring Mo’Nique, Paula Patton, Gabourey Sidibe, Lenny Kravitz and Mariah Carey will be released across America on the 6th November (no word on a UK release date yet). Directed by Lee Daniels, the Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry backed film is also receiving some Oscar buzz.

Via BBC News South African runner Caster Semenya, whose gender was queried by athletics officials, has defended her looks and taken part in a makeover in a magazine. Ms Semenya, the 800m world champion, posed for the cover of South Africa’s You magazine. “I am who I am and I am proud of myself,” the 18-year-old said. “I’d like to dress up more often and wear dresses but I never get the chance,” she said as she was photographed in several outfits.
