In Japan, Jamaican Reggae/Dancehall music is HUGE!!!! And if you don’t believe me then just watch this.
The footage below was filmed at an event that took place last year, in Osaka Japan.
I remember back in the 90s when it was thought that if the Reggae art form wanted to achieve international success/popularity (Like Rap/Hip Hop has) then it’s artists had to make the move to America and then sign to major labels.
Label executives (who knew nothing about the genre/culture) would then team up reggae artists with Hip Hop/R&B acts and attempt to water down the reggae/dancehall sound.
I never bought in to that foolishness. As far as I was concerned the genre had already gained popularity on an international level, and had/has MILLIONS of fans all over the world embracing the culture/music.
The artists were already making a decent living, selling records, touring the world and selling out venues long before the US started to take an interest.
This is my first time watching Japanese men getting down to the sounds of Elephant Man and Vybz Kartel.
They can dance!!!!!!
I love it!!!!
Your thoughts please…..

Finally watched it, they really got the rawness, craziness & utter silliness of those moves. Wow, the only dance I know is, the church 2-step.
Disclaimer: No offence to my Jamaican counterparts, but those steps are basically:
1. Speed-induced dry humping.
and/or
2. The crazy ass shit you do when you’re high on PCP.
I could have sworn I saw some Makossa moves…
