LITTLE Faith Mwape was born with the feet of her conjoined twin poking out from her buttocks – and may never walk as a result.
Surgeons will perform a five-hour operation to remove the Zambian baby’s underdeveloped brother or sister at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka next Wednesday.
Faith, who was born last April, will only have a chance at a normal life if the legs are separated
Her mother Mercy Lenganji, 18, faces an anxious wait as a team of 10 specialist doctors, led by Prof Lupando Munkonge, perform the unique surgery.
The baby has already spent the past 26 days undergoing tests ahead of the risky operation, funded by the Zambian Government.
Mercy had known she was expecting twins from scans, but during her caesarean section at a small hospital in the Zambian town of Mufilira, doctors discovered one of the babies had not developed.
Mercy said: “The doctors kept my child away from me for two days after she was born because they said the sight of her would have put me in shock.”
One of four children, Mercy’s close family have helped her with the stress of the problems.
She said: “My parents have been so supportive of me throughout this.”
“Faith’s father Martin Mwape took one look at his daughter and has never come back and I am sure this is because of her deformity. Continue Reading/view more pictures
She is a cute little thing. I pray that the operation is successful.
As for little Faith’s father Martin Mwape … ok I understand the shock when he first laid eyes on her, but to then leave and never come back…..
The man is cruel and beyond worthless!

That’s black african ignorant people for you. I bet he thought he had been bewitched or the child would bring a curse or is a curse. That’s what they think. I am not joking. Ignorance is a disease and it’s unfortunate that it is on a wide scale in africa. I hope that cutie pie has a successful operation.
wow.. now this i give a damn about.. a child!!! goood luck darling!!!
God willing she will come out the operation healthy ..4 a father 2 just leave his child like that is wrong . Your own child smh …I know what youre talkin about Lati ..I heard about that b4 ..I will pray 4 her
18? I wonder how old the dad is? Cutie pie, I hope your operation goes well. This kind of African mentality has got to stop.
Sidebar: To my fellow African females, how happy were you, when you discovered you had nothing to do with the sex of your child? The smirk I had on my face was pricesless.
Adaobi, i hear your frustration. I’ll tell you what really frustrated me here in the uk. You remember that girl in england who was mistreated nearly to death bse the relatives thought she was a witch? They say you can take a person from a village but you can never take the village out of them. Even in ‘civilised’ all this nonsense still goes on. So what does that mean for our people back in africa? Your guess is as good as mine.
I meant civilised britain up there.
civilised britain!!
