UK MUSIC: CRAZY COUNSINZ FT CALISTA – ‘BONGO JAM’

[Thanks T]

First off – What the HELL????

LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And surprise surprise not one black model in sight. Oh dear… excluded once again!

When will the UK’s black music “industry” (and I use that term loosely) give the black woman a break???

America elects its first black President and the UK black music scene still refuses to feature sistahs in music videos.

I mean when will the discrimination end???

Your thoughts please….

  1. janice, have you watched tinchy stryder featuring Taio? Let me ask you something. Is it the artist to blame or the record label owners or the cultural system?

  2. all 3….

and it won’t really stop Janice, until Black women are the majority and not the minority in the UK, which will be, ermm, hummmm, wait a mniute lol… again just imo 😉

  3. @ Lati

All three, but in Taio’s case it is mostly is decision as he runs his own label.

    @ Fr

Hmmmm maybe or its just that they think (and this includes the artists themselves)that black chicks aren’t visually sexually desirable in this country.

  4. Janice, he runs his own label but if it affected his record sales, would you advise him to cast black women still? If it was in America, i would be probably be swearing at him and calling him names, but in Britain, i would not. I think black people here are still at the mercy of whites in many ways and in strong positions. I was speaking to my scottish friend and she said to me that she would hate to be black, not because she hates them but because she sees their struggle in the job industry and name calling and whatever. This coming from a white person just emphasised things to me.

  5. Nah at this point I’m not buying it. They just prefer not to have black women featured in their videos. We are not seen as being beautiful/sexy enough.

Most black male artists in this country now think a long the same lines as our black footballers, who avoid being seen with black women like the plague.

  6. I believe there’s alot of discrimination in britain which is very subtle but very strong and for that reason, i’ll give him a break. There’s a problem somewhere for sure.

  7. It’s down to choice….period.

If the hypothesis about the fact that white people need to see themselevs in these videos then the rappers/vocalists would be white too. It would make business sense. If anything, quite a few white people must not appreciate seeing their little girls gyrating up with a darkie anyway!lol!

    @ Lati

“I believe there’s alot of discrimination in britain which is very subtle but very strong and for that reason, i’ll give him a break. ”

That mentality would have kept Rosa at the back of the bus, but everyone has their catalyst I s’pose.

  8. Also can I just add that if you are currently have, have had or are having a physical relationship with a white person to refrain from taking these comments personally or unecessary feelings of insecurity about not being ‘black enuff’ (whatever that is)This ain’t the forum for those playground arguments..

And for the record I have dated a white man happily so let’s not get into the whole angry black sis accusations yeah?

    Peace.x

  9. If you can convince me that there’s not a problem in britain that makes him decide the way he does, i will join you. I strongly believe the black community is disadvantaged which makes life hard in so many ways. Just give me something to meet you half way.

  10. Reclaimin’ is a sister woooo… (my bad, I assumed you were a male) must of been the title, do forgive…

how did that relationship work out?… u know which one ?..lol… I’m just being playful…

    @ Janice…

Yes, without doubt, many don’t see dark skin daughters as being, as attractive as others, white, light skinned etc etc…

u know this whole barbie doll thing, and all that, … it’s very real, but I’m making no excuses…

there is so much I wanna say right now, but can’t it’s taking to long, hopefully later when I finish work, I’ll give u my thoughts seriously!

  11. @ fr, are you working? Are you white? (just kidding). I have a day off to watch Obama innauguration. I have asda value tissues at my side. Emotions are all over the place in americans and i cannot help but join in.

  12. I kind of liked this tune but this video is a load of rubbish.

This video has no excuses they could have easily stuck in girls of different races.

    Yes I agree with Fr.
But I think its more the Artists mentality as many say in conversation they gonna put nuff white girls in there next video because the one they done with black girls didn’t sell to well, most seem to think there video will sell more if they put white girls, as fundamentally white girls will be the ones who will buy the tune Legitimately! A lot of UK Artists also think Black girls dont buy on itunes etc and just get it from a DJ’s Podcast/mixtape with it mixed in, or worse still Limewire etc.

  13. @fr…it didn’t work out! lol!

Very true about the demographic of buyer though NV…there is certainly a problem with the buying power of black audiences in the UK. There is a definite attitude with a lot of black people wealthy, poor, tall, short that ‘black music’ is a birthright and that DJS/mates etc should give em a burn or download. It’s something we complain about bitterly as minor promoters (sorry Lati-tis necessary!)..it’s common knowledge in music that black people don’t spend. Be it on the music itself or on a night out.

how many times have I been to a packed event with black folk and seen NOONE at the bar…lol! It’s a good thing that people don’t love drink but they must understand that the venue has to make some revenue….

Sorry to digress but I see the parallels in NVs point

  14. The song is whack and the video is a D list video that won’t even play here in the US, if he wants to cast white girls in his video that is his perogotive! It is not like he is good looking to begin with…. In America for the most part white musicians cast white women in their videos and Black artist cast mixed, it is the artist and director who cast the videos …… if it bothers fans so much don’t buy his music. This topic is so 1994!!! Is he gay by any chance?? He looks like he may be on the sweet side!!!

  15. @ Diva,
It’s so 1994 coz yo in america and things have moved on. This is Britain we are talking about. Tell us a bit about this kind of problem in terms of america so we can understand. I mean what happened in the years be4 1994 as far as this issue is concerned in america?

  16. They had so many girls in the video, they really have no excuse, …

seeing the video, it is quite comical, but still very poor. imo. 😉

  17. i know i shouldn’t make a joke…but as a black woman I wouldn’t be caught dead in this video. lol.

let the white girls have it…

we’re to good to be shaking our asses on camera…time to start thinking for our selves.

let’s move away from being video vixens…cuz lord knows they ain’t actors.

  18. I’m from America also and this video was super corny …
    ——————————
LOL DivaKattGurl -Is he gay by any chance?? He looks like he may be on the sweet side!!!
    ——————————–
with all the beautiful black women in this world and he doesn’t have any in his video ..ridiculous
    ———————————-
but true what mishal moore why would any black woman would want to be in that stupid ass video

  19. @ lati

In America we still have issues with color, of course we and our big mouths fight back, lash the tongue, etc.

The issue of skin color and acceptance has been going on and on like that whole Beyonce mess, and the pro-ballers and their white women, and in some ways I see improvments and in others I don’t!

I mean, I love all people but I do see in some areas such as Chicago where whitey dominates all ….and it is very segregated there… I was actually shocked at how segregated it is in the actual city and as you drive out to other areas like Hyde Park where Obama lives it is mixed and quite lovely (as you Brits say).

New York is a melting pot you will see all kinds, all shades living and working together and still there is some discrimination but depending on how it is directed is how we deal with it.

I have no time for fuckery, so if a person offends me I handle my biz, I let them know I am not going for it!!!

    😉 But really I am a pussy katt just don’t cross me 😉 😉

I am looking forward to my trip to London…. it should be an interesting exerience!

  20. p.s. I believe in the 80’s people got along better because of the music and dance (hip hop and breaking) brought us together…. horrible fashions but cooler times….. lawd I am dating myself!! 🙂

  21. loved Mishal Moore’s comment, leave dem slots away, bigger and better indeed!

@ Diva… Don’t forgot your brolly love and a warm coat that can halt the harshes of brezzes 😉

  22. hopefully young black women in this country aspire to better things than being a piece of meat in some cheesy video! racist or not, it is derogatory to women in general.
it’s true though, that fashion and music media is whitewashed in this country – most of the british fashion magazines will only use a black model if they want to portray ‘exotic’ fashion (animal or graphic prints, tribal jewellry, safari inspired etc). they do the same with asian models (weird kimono fashions, fetishy footwear, geisha makeup etc etc) and play up to stereotypes.

  23. @Mishal
    LOL 🙂

    @Sara
    They just having fun!

Most dancers I know, just do it for fun and attention. Its not their choosen path for a career and are aware it does’nt pay very well. But they may get to go on free holidays and dance in clubs and beaches without spending a penny. Its like just making your hobbie pay for itself (rasta’s selling weed).

How many of you ladies have ever worn skimpy clothes in a club and shaked your thing? I bet all of you!!! Would you class yourself as being derogatory to women or just having fun?

As far as THIS video is concerned its degrading to everything it represents. That includes Africans, Black boys, Girls, and Bongo’s.

  24. @ Real NV,

You might want to check in the ‘kollin D’ topic. You’ll get the perfect picture. But Janice, why use that term?

  25. Janice where did you get this crazy video from by the way? Are they Nigerians or what? It looks like a scene from the nigerian movies. I must say for sure, even if i was white, i would not buy this. Basing on this video alone, i will join your camp. Are you sure it was made in the uk? Really?
