JUMP OFF TV (UK DEBATE) – DO THE POLICE MAKE THE BLACK MUSIC SCENE A SCAPEGOAT FOR VIOLENCE?

April 11, 2012 4 comments

After a man in his thirties was stabbed in the neck with a broken bottle at a London party hosted by BlackBerry maker RIM, the regular debaters got together alongside guests to discuss what can be done to prevent violence.

Following this incident the Official Mixtape Award ceremony due to take place on Thursday 5th April was cancelled by the police with just hours to go.

Claira Hermet and Snakey Man who were due to be hosting the prestigious event joined the debaters to discuss what happened.

Here are some of the questions and ideas raised and discussed during the debate:

-Was the cancellation of the OMA’s a result of the RIM stabbing?
-What can be done to prevent violence?
-What can we do as a community to prevent violence?
-Is the black music scene being used as a scapegoat for violence?
-Why isn’t violence that takes place that is linked to other genres reported?
-Why did the police cancel the OMA’s?

The debaters were faced with a few of the following questions:

VIDEO: JUMP OFF TV UK (DEBATE) – ARE AFRICAN JOKES PLAYED OUT?

February 28, 2012 9 comments

The debaters got together with two special guests and discussed how far ethnic jokes can go before they become played out. With the African culture becoming a more popular topic amongst comedians, Babatunde (comedian) also had his own opinion on the matter.

Here are some of the questions and points that were raised and discussed during the debate:
- How far will African jokes go before they get boring?
- Can African jokes reach out to the mainstream?
- Are Ethnic jokes offensive?
- Is there a double standard in ethnic comedy?

When comedians are getting on stage telling the same old tired jokes they were telling ten years ago then it’s a problem.

How can Teef say Gina Yashere isn’t funny? Hahahaha. I love that woman. She is FUNNY!

VIDEO: JUMP OFF UK DEBATE – WHAT IS “URBAN” MUSIC

January 27, 2012 4 comments

With the word “Urban” in the air the debaters discuss exactly what the word means.

Here are some of the questions that were raised and discussed during the debate:

Is “Urban” Music Black Music?

Why was it created?

Do all genres come from black music?

….

As far as I am concerned the word “URBAN” should be banished!

JUMP OFF UK (DEBATE) HAS UK HIP HOP LOST IT’S BRITISH IDENTITY?

December 17, 2011 11 comments

Why has there been a decline in Grime and is UK Hip Hop becoming too similar to the US?

- Does the UK have its own identity in Hip Hop?

- Is British music becoming more Americanised?

- Is Grime now a form of Hip Hop?

- Has the UK turned its back on Grime?

- Is it acceptable for artists to make music with a fake accent?

….

I think that there has been a decline in Grime music because it’s never been particularly good. There may have been a few tracks here and there that sounded reasonably catchy but other than that Grime never really had that ‘longevity’ factor.

VIDEO: JUMP OFF TV (USA) DEBATE – WHY PEOPLE CONFUSE OPINION AS ‘HATING’

November 2, 2011 6 comments

‘Hating/haters’ have to be the most overused words in the UK right now. If you voice what is seen as an unpopular opinion and say you don’t like an artist’s music or a particular project and refuse to hype up BLATANT mediocrity/tomfoolery people are then quick to call you a “hater”or accuse you of “hating”.

It’s hilarious.

I was once told by a Team UK actor that I was helping to keep the UK scene down because of my opinions ( yeah like I have the power and influence to do that hahaha), that I speak on things I know nothing about and that “it’s not a good look”. I laughed for hours.

Anyway check out Valerie Lora, Jas Fly, LowKey, Mecca and Glenny Kravitz’s thoughts on the subject matter.

VIDEO: NEW JUMP OFF TV PRESENTERS GO ON FREE SHOPPING SPREE AT MAGIC STREETWEAR

September 22, 2011 Leave a comment

New Friday Hip Hop Report Presenters Vicky N.Hope and Jade Avia were invited to the Magic Streetwear warehouse for a free-for-all shopping spree, to choose outfits for the New UK Show.

…….

It looks like Magic Streetwear brought out their left over early-mid noughties stock for the day. The outfits made available to the girls look dated. Erm… did I really just see a velour tracksuit???

Anyway congratulations Vicky and Jade and good luck.
