The Voice reports that actor Idris Elba will appear as a judge on a new Sky 1 talent show titled Launching People.
The purpose of the show is to ‘turn people’s dreams of making films, music, food and other passions into reality’.
When asked about the project Idris said:
I want to find a person to tell a story and inspire others. They might have an idea that they’re not quite sure how to take to the next level. If I represent anything, it’s someone who dreamed big and achieved those dreams.
If anyone out there has a similar aspiration, then I want to hear from them.”
Launching People will air this spring.
This country kills me. Back in the day these British TV/film big wigs who are now buzzing around Idris like flies were reluctant to aid his career here, so he packed up and moved to America where he eventually became a huge star.
Now these same lame bigwigs are all fawning over him and giving him anything he wants. I cannot help but cackle.
Unlike Lenny Henry who wants to stop black British talent from fleeing these shores, I would advise them to pack up and head for America if /when the opportunity presents itself.
Black British stars Idris Elba and Chiwetel Ejiofor have both received ‘Best Actor’ Golden Globes nominations.
Chitwetel has been nominated for his role in the epic ’12 Years A Slave’ and Idris for his portrayal of the late South African leader Nelson Mandela in the biopic ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom’.
Congratulations to them both.
I think Chitwetel will take home the award in 2014, he plays a slave in the harrowing ’12 years’, a role like that (and other roles that depict some form of servitude e.g. The Help, The Butler) is always going to win you big awards in today’s Hollywood.
Apologies for the late posting of this madness. After black Twitter users spotted this mistake and then accused Armani of racism, the Italian fashion house swiftly removed the post, but a few websites managed to screen shot the post before it disappeared.
Last week Giorgio Armani posted a photograph on their Instagram page of American actress Alfre Woodard along with the caption:
“Idris Elba posing in a gorgeous Giorgio @armani dress at the 5th Annual Governors Awards.”
Okay, so there are some who think we all look alike but this was just RIDICULOUS.
“I’m so bored of answering that. Are there differences between black actors’ opportunities and white actors’ opportunities? Yes, there are. It’s been said. I’d rather a young black actor read about success as opposed to how tough it was. I get these roles because I can act and that’s it. Hopefully that’s it. The less I talk about being black, the better.
It has been confirmed that award-winning British actor Idris Elba will play Nelson Mandela in the up and coming biopic Long Walk To Freedom.
The film will chronicle Mandela’s early life and the 27 years he spent in prison.
There is no stopping Idris! Congratulations.
