This news has made my Friday evening.
The Associated Press just reported that PepsiCo makers of the beverage Mountain Dew has dropped rapper Lil Wayne (real name Dwayne Carter).
Wayne caused controversy earlier this year when he appeared on the remix of Atlanta artist Future’s unreleased single ’Karate Chop’ and rapped the line, “beat the p*ssy up like Emmett Till.”
Emmett Till was a 14 year old African-American boy who was brutally murdered in Mississippi in 1955, after he reportedly whistled and flirted with Carolyn Bryant, a 21 year old Caucasian woman.
Till’s family demanded an apology after hearing the vile lyrics but their request was ignored for two months. But that changed several days ago after it was announced that they planned on pursuing Wayne’s sponsors, namely Mountain Dew, a product of PepsiCo. Click here to read all about it.
This move finally forced the reprobate to sit up and take notice, and a publicist was quickly instructed to issue an public apology on the coward’s behalf. In response to the ‘apology’ members from the Till family were far from impressed and said “the letter fell short of an apology”.
The backlash has now led to PepsiCo ending its partnership with Wayne and today they said that his “offensive reference to a revered civil rights icon does not reflect the values of our brand.”
While Wayne’s publicist Sarah Cunningham LIED and said the split was due to “creative differences” and that it was an amicable parting.
Well done to the Till family.
Rest In Peace Emmett Till.
