The Associated Press reports that Chris Kelly from the hit 1990s Hip Hop duo Kriss Kross has died at the age of 34.
Chris died at an Atlanta hospital on Wednesday of an apparent drug overdose at his home, authorities said. No official cause of death has been determined, pending an autopsy.
Chris “Mac Daddy,” Kelly and his group mate, Chris “Daddy Mac” Smith, were discovered by music producer Jermaine Dupri while performing at an Atlanta shopping mall. Dupri signed the duo and they later went on to release their debut album, Totally Krossed Out, in 1992, when Kelly and Smith were 13 and 12 years old.
Kris Kross gained popularity among teens with their radio-friendly rap and trendsetting style (they wore their clothing backwards), the album reached Number One in America and sold four million copies. Its lead single, “Jump,” topped the charts worldwide.
I liked Kriss Kross. This news has saddened me this morning.
Rest In Peace Chris Kelly.
