UK NEWS: DRAMA ‘TOP BOY’ RENEWED FOR A SECOND SERIES

Well no surprises here!

Last week I posted a review piece about the Top Boy debate that took place in Brixton (click HERE to read). In the piece I mentioned that there would no doubt be a second series and that the writer Ronan Bennett was probably sitting in a posh office somewhere working on the script.

Top Boy writer Ronan Bennett

Then some clown called Joseph_SW who I suspect is connected to Bennett left this comment in response to my remarks.

It’s really irresponsible to speculate that he’s at home working on a second series, maybe try getting some firm information so that you article actually has some substance and try using some vague journalistic skills!

Hilarious!

Anyway Channel 4′s chief creative officer Jay Hunt told Digital Spy that the show was ”hugely original and passionate, with a brilliant roster of new talent”, while Channel 4′s head of drama Camilla Campbell said that it has a “distinct authorial voice”. We were delighted that Top Boy resonated so widely and captured a world behind the headlines in a deeply humane and absorbing way, and look forward to inviting its loyal viewers back next year.”

That’s a good look. I just hope it doesn’t suffer from that shit second series syndrome.

I didn’t watch the first series and won’t watch the second one. I saw the trailer enough times to know it just wasn’t for me. I’m in my early 30′s watching this ‘genre’ of drama played out on the big screen/TV has been done to death. It’s not new or original, and those harping on about “this story needs to be told” ermmmm why?

Great, more stereotypical roles for black actors in the UK, but hey, at least they wont thave to sell drugs for real!
