Russell Simmons and Bill Cosby

On the 7 March Bill Cosby and mogul Russell Simmons both attended The Jackie Robinson Awards Gala in New York, but sometime during the evening Bill turned to Russell and told him to “get the f**k out of my face”, after Russell told the Cosby Show star he “loved him”.

In 2009 the two clashed after Russell publicly criticised Bill for his State of Emergency campaign which he created to help promote socially conscious rap music, but on the night of the gala Bill wasn’t in a forgiving mood.

Russell wrote on his blog,

I wanted to find him to apologize, to tell him I was sorry about my statements and to tell him that I loved him. Suddenly I turned and he was behind the curtain and I said “I love you” and he responded on some real hip-hop, “Get the f*ck out my face!”

Anyhow, I love Bill.  His next move was straight up old school pre b-boy hood shit. He walked by me and bumped me with his shoulder as I walked off stage after presenting my award to Sean, just like the cool ass character in “Let’s Do It Again.” I then loved him even more.  He’s from the same hood I’m from, just got a lucky break like me, cause I am those suffering men. And after that elbow I knew he was too.

I respect what Russell has achieved with regards to building the Def Jam empire (alongside Rick Rubin), but the man thinks that because he is extremely rich, moves in affluent circles and is hero worshipped across the world that he is an authority on everything. E.g. from blood diamonds in Africa to politics, religion, art/culture, health and lifestyle within the African-American community (the list is endless). And has some-how got it in to his head that his word is law.     

I am glad Bill shut down this grovelling form of an apology and put the annoying little know it all in his place.  Arrogant Russ must have thought that Bill would have graciously accepted his rather pathetic “I love you” and they would then end up in a manly embrace.

WRONG! Bill went old skool on his backside and refused to enter in to fakeness mode. 

When questioned about the incident Bill replied “I don’t want to discuss it”.

Hahahahahaha!

Check out rapper Ayo’s new single Miracle featuring new vocalist Alex Martin.

Miracle will be released on the 15 May.

I thought auto-tune had more or less been laid to rest but no it’s still alive and kicking!

There is nothing original about this track. We’ve heard this kind of song before. But Miracle will get the air play and may become a chart hit because this type of sound is all the rage now.

MOBO Founder Kanya King

MOBO awards founder Kanya King held a press conference  today and announced that the 2011 ceremony will take place in Glasgow (Scotland). She also confirmed that the event will be held in Glasgow in 2013, and on it’s the 20th anniversary in 2015.

I think that this is a good move. When they held the 2009 event in Glasgow it was a huge success. The show was well organised and the audience was hyped up and lively. But last year’s event in Liverpool was dire! The audience members should have stayed home because they just didn’t seem to get it.

Pop Dash reports that writers from the hit Channel 4 show the Inbetweeners have expressed interest in writing a new comedy series starring Dizzee Rascal.

A “source” apparently told tabloid rag The Sun (who seem to be huge “supporters” of any and everything “URBAN” these days)

Damon and Iain like the idea of making a funny show about a rapper. Urban artists are usually portrayed in negative or bleak circumstances but they want to do something different.

Dizzee is a big personality with loads of charisma and the writers think he would be the ideal subject for the show. It’s just a question of whether or not he has the acting ability to pull it off.”

Nicki Pike

A young woman who had an affair with married 7/7 bomber Jermaine Lindsay claims that his betrayal turned her off men for life and she is now a lesbian….

A teenager who was the secret girlfriend of 7/7 suicide bomber Jermaine Lindsay told today how she has become a lesbian because she “can’t trust men”.

Lindsay, 19, was married when he detonated a bomb on the Piccadilly line between Russell Square and King’s Cross on 7 July 2005.

But he was secretly seeing Nicki Pike, then 17, and tried to convince her to stay with him at a hotel the night before the bombings. Ms Pike, now 23, said: “I can never forgive him.”

I laughed when I came across this story today. Nicki is obviously desperate for her 15 minutes in the spotlight so contacted the newspapers with this ridiculous story. Crawl back under your rock Nicki. Silly woman.

Rest In Peace to all those who lost their lives in the 7/7 attacks.

The Long Beach Press-Telegram reports that singer Nate Dogg (real name Nathaniel D. Hale) has died. The cause of death has not been specified yet.

The star had however been in ill-health for sometime and suffered two strokes – one in 2007, the other in 2008.

Nobody could write or sing a hook like Nate. When he teamed up with Snoop Dogg, Dre and the Dogg Pound it was just pure magic.

It’s been reported that British Reggae star Smiley Culture (real name David Emmanuel died this morning.  He was 48 years old.

Emmanuel, born and raised in South London and was educated at Tulse Hill School. Prior to his recording career he worked as a DJ with the Saxon Studio International reggae soundsystem, where he worked with a number of other reggae artists, including Maxi Priest, Papa Levi and Tippa Irie.

Smiley burst on to the scene in the 1980s and had a huge hit back in 1985 with the classic single Police Officer. 

He was brilliant.

Brian True-May

Well it’s all kicking off now!

Since it was announced earlier today that Midsomer Murders co-creator/producer Brian True-May has now been suspended, after saying in an interview that there was no place for ethnic minorities in his show, the fans and the show’s stars have come out to support him.

I wonder what the script writers have planned for future episodes. I just know that there are plans to incorporate in the odd “ethnic” character now. 

Will a Grime emcee with short dreads from Brixton just appear in a future episode, perform a live set at the village fete, and then turn up dead after it’s revealed he’s been secretly dating the Vicar’s daughter?

I wonder… I wonder….
