UK MUSIC NEWS: JAY-Z CO-SIGNS X-FACTOR’S CHER LLOYD

November 14, 2010 9 comments

Cher Lloyd

MTV UK reports that Jay-Z has given X-Factor contestant Cher Lloyd the thumbs up, for her irritating renditions of his hit singles Hard Knock Life and Empire State Of Mind. Click HERE and HERE watch.

According to the website Jay allegedly said,

“I was very impressed with her version of Hard Knock Life. It should be a track on her debut album and I would happily add my lyrics to it. I could get myself, Kanye West, Beyoncé and Rihanna all working on her debut album and that would make it an automatic hit.”

Jay-Z

I was wondering how long it would take for the British media to publish an over exaggerated quote from Jay-Z in regards to Cheryl Cole’s annoying little pet Cher.

It’s just laughable BS.

WHAT HAS PRINCE CHARLES DONE TO DESERVE THIS?

UK EVENT: THE SUGARHILL GANG LIVE @ INDIGO2

November 10, 2010 2 comments

The Sugar Hill Gang

In a mammoth celebration of the Christmas season, Ultimate Boogie Nights will play host to three super-acts of their respective musical genres, for one night only at the IndigO2, at the O2 on 17th December 2010.

The Sugarhill Gang are the phenomenal 3-piece rap collective that heralded hip hop and were the first rappers to receive commercial success with their anthemic single ‘Rapper’s Delight’ in 1979.  The band were instrumental in making hip hop music accessible to the masses and their reign continued with infectious jams such as ‘Apache’ (Jump On It) – as made popular through a dance skit in actor Will Smith’s early 80’s comedy ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ – and the classic track‘8th Wonder’ which rapper Busta Rhymes samples in ‘Woo Ha’.

Evelyn Champagne King

Evelyn ‘Champagne’ King burst into the music scene in 1977 with her certified gold single ‘Shame’ which peaked at #9 on the Billboard Chart. She then went on to record more disco hits including ‘I Don’t Know If  It’s Right’ ‘I’m In Love’ and ‘Love Come Down’. Discovered at just 16 years old in the washroom of the Philadelphia International Records base, Evelyn was signed to Sony RCA and a fruitful career of dance smashes followed. Evelyn was recently inducted into the official Dance Music Hall of Fame with ‘Shame’.

Tom Browne

Jazz trumpeter and Funk master Tom Browne’s rise to prominence came with the feel-good jam ‘Funkin For Jamaica’ released in 1980, the track written by Browne, with vocals from Tonni Smith. The track is now synonymous with quintessential 80’s funk and was even reworked in 2001 by Mariah Carey for her ‘Glitter’ album.   Tom’s other Funk smashes include the South African inspired ‘Fungi Mama’ and smooth grooved ‘Bye Gones’, while boasting 10 albums under his belt spanning from 1979 with ‘Browne Sugar’ in 1979 through to ‘R ‘N’ Browne in 1999. As a live instrumentalist as well as singer, the great detail and finesse is Tom’s music is absolutely brought to life when heard live.

Ultimate Boogie Nights is the UK’s No.1 night for the very best soul, funk and groove, featuring legendary performers from past and present taking you back to the old school for nights to remember.

UK NEWS: TV CHEF GORDON RAMSAY SENDS OPEN LETTER TO HIS MOTHER-IN-LAW AFTER FIRING FATHER-IN-LAW

November 10, 2010 Leave a comment

Gordon with wife Tana

For those who are not so familiar with this story, celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsay fired his business partner of 12 years several weeks ago, after a huge argument.  Gordon’s now former business partner Chris Hutcheson is also his father-in-law.

As you can imagine this has caused a huge family rift and Gordon has foolishly sent an open letter to his mother-in-law Greta which was published in yesterday’s Evening Standard.

Gordon says he wrote the letter in response to Greta’s letter to her daughter (his wife) Tana asking that she stay away from her family.

The Kitchen Nightmares star wrote,

Dear Mother in Law,

This has to be one of the most painful letters I’ve ever had to write. Listening to Tana in floods of tears reading your letter from you asking that she stays away from her family is so awfully wrong.

Removing my father in law from my business has been the hardest and most important decision in my entire life. For a decade, his manipulation and controlling of so many lives has finally come to an end.

Chris recently suggested my mood swings were down to involvement with drugs; my god did that hurt. How dare he ever suggest this on the back of my frustration and dealings with my younger brother and his addiction.

To curb my suspicions, I employed a private detective and the situation started to unravel very quickly. The very complex life that Chris leads, has seen many of my key staff feeling they have had to cover on his behalf. His away days were rarely what I thought they were. But beyond that, one of my biggest concerns was the business: signing huge contracts in my name and furthermore discovering emails were being looked at.The office became stifled and the air of relief at Gordon Ramsay Holdings, knowing that we don’t need to pretend any longer, is a breath of fresh air.

Three weeks ago today when I met with my team to explain the situation, you could instantly see the relief and joy on their faces. His role as CEO of Gordon Ramsay holdings in the end felt like he was running the business as a dictator.

My relationship with my chefs has been, and always will be, amazing. To see them, as individuals chefs, flourish and having now made their way to some of the most prominent chefs in the country, gives me nothing but pride and joy.

The creative chefs we turned into partners, the harder they worked, the more profit they generated, but when they requested a share of the profits, their departure was seemingly imminent, something I wasn’t comfortable with.

I know how hard this must be for you Greta, and I’m not expecting a birthday card today, but your punishing your daughter and our four children, for all the wrong reasons, it’s so sad. She’s an amazing woman and you’ve been a fantastic mum – please don’t stop!

Going public with this letter isn’t going to mend fences Gordon. You have just made matters worse for your wife by sending this open letter (instead of sending it directly to your mother-in-law via Royal Mail) and practically throwing your father in law under a bus by writing this , ‘To curb my suspicions, I employed a private detective and the situation started to unravel very quickly. The very complex life that Chris leads, has seen many of my key staff feeling they have had to cover on his behalf. His away days were rarely what I thought they were.

If you had spent more time concentrating on the running of your now struggling businesses, and less time believing your own hype and focusing on your various TV projects, then perhaps all this drama might have been avoided.

UK MUSIC: JESSIE J – DO IT LIKE A DUDE

November 9, 2010 10 comments

People have been raving about this lady and her official debut track/video (Do It Like A Dude) all day, so I decided to finally check out new artist Jessie J.

The track – When I first watched the video I just thought of Rihanna and Lady Saw.

In my opinion Do It Like A Dude isn’t particularly outstanding, it just sounds like your average UK “urban” fare.  But it will probably go on to become Jessie’s first UK number 1 single, and come 2011 she will probably have the number 1 album in the country.

Then to top it off,  Jessie will be hailed ‘the first lady of UK “Urban” music by BBC Radio stalwarts Jo Wiley, Zane Lowe and last but not least Trevor Nelson.

Your thoughts please. Hit or Miss?
