It seems the world has gone ‘bananas’ over Jay-Z’s recently released book Decoded, including the folk over at the New York Public Library.

Jay-Z appeared at the NY Public Library last night (I’m guessing it was his first time actually stepping foot in to the library) for an analyses of his book Decoded, along side Dr. Cornel West and Paul Holdengräber.

The NY Public Library organises a night dedicated to this book and intellectuals Dr. Cornel West and Paul Holdengräber sit an “analyse” Jay’s “life story” for two hours in front of attendees which included the legendary Harry Belafonte.

I had no idea that Jay’s rise from being a Marcy Projects waste man to millionaire rapper/business man would spark so much jaw dropping interest. Decoded must be an absolute masterpiece! 

As I type it’s probably on track to outsell the Bible.

I think I’ll run out and purchase ten copies as Christmas presents to myself.

This November Urban Development brings you Unplugged Sessions. Part of this year’s London Jazz Festival, Unplugged will be taking place on Friday 19th November at Stratford Circus and features the likes of Donae’o, Kele Le Roc and Ed Sheeran. Put simply, Unplugged is a must-see for any true live music lover.

Over the weekend (Saturday afternoon) I received news that a preview screening of the Tyler Perry film adaption of the play For Colored Girls was due to take place this afternoon (15th November), at 1.30pm in London.

But sadly it never happened.

I was told that guests arrived,  waited for over an hour and then it was eventually announced that there would be no screening because there was NO FILM TO SCREEN. You see whoever was in charge of sending the film (LIONSGATE) either forgot or just couldn’t be bothered to send it to the organisation hosting the screening.

I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

What the hell happened??? Was this mess due to a break down in communication between the film distributor and event organiser?

The British media are at it again! Trying their hardest to make it seem as if the “nation’s sweetheart” has credibility amongst US male stars within the world of Hip Hop and R&B.

First they published news that she supposedly received praise from rapper T.I, then came Usher, then came Jay-Z, then came Ne-Yo, then came Akon, then came Iyaz, then came Trey Songz (who didn’t even know who the woman was) and now we’re back to Usher again.

Who will be praising her next? Jah Cure? Beanie Man? Bounty Killer? Mavado?

Anyway if The Daily Mirror is to be believed, the R&B turned Dance superstar (Usher) allegedly said this about the fraud.

“Cheryl is so pretty spent a little time with her in England last month at X Factor.

“I’m sure she’s gonna make it in the States. She’s got it going on.”

“I want her on stage for sure. It will be really nice, if she has time,” he said. “She got moves.

“Afterwards maybe we can have a roast dinner, or we’ll get Newcastle Brown Ale. That’s what you guys like, right?”

And I’m sorry but I refuse to believe that the words ‘Newcastle Brown Ale’ came out of Usher’s mouth.

BANG 103.6FM has been shortlisted for a £50,000 grant from the Big Lottery.

This funding will allow us to launch BANG Talent which will offer young people in Brent the opportunity to join a music-making project to develop their skills and abilities and celebrate their talents. The project will include workshops, courses, free studio time and live showcases.

A TV feature on BANG Talent will be shown on ITV’s London Tonight on WEDNESDAY 24^th NOVEMBER between 6-6.30pm and all our supporters will need to call on the night and vote for us to win- we are only against one other organisation, so we have a really good chance of winning this.

The winner of this funding is chosen by YOU, the viewer, and the project with the most votes wins!

Rapper Chipmunk has been raving about his new single Flying High for the past week now.  So does it lived up to the hype?

Well like with most mainstream UK “urban” music these days… no not really. But to be fair the production isn’t bad.

The video – another UK emcee going out of his way to honour Jay-Z by mimicking his mannerisms and choice of clothing.  Then we have the African theme running through the video which doesn’t connect to the track.

Then you have exotic/European looking chicks cast as the ‘desirable’ one’s rubbing up next to the star, while the black chicks (obviously representing Africa) are cast as wild looking  juju women.

UK ‘urban’ music videos…. you gotta luv em!
