Pure Film productions will release two “Urban” feature length films in 2011.
First up is the film VICTIM.
VICTIM tells the story of a young man’s attempt to break out of a cycle of violence
Backed by the film production arm of Pure Music, VICTIM is a vibrant and authentic picture of the consequences of crime, and how one young person will finally escape from this dangerous trap. Inspired by true events, the script was written by actors Ashley Chin (‘Cherry Tree Lane’) and Michael Maris (‘The Bill’), who contacted fellow actor Jason Maza (‘Fish Tank, ‘Shifty’ ’Rise of the Footsoldiers’) to be producer. All three will star in a film set to mark a change in the portrayal of urban life.
When country-girl TIA comes to stay with her cousin in the city, little does she realise that her naivety will disturb the delicate balance of cousin DAVINA and her group of friends. Living the good life on a career of crime, DAVINA’s friend TYSON struggles to be a parent to his teenage sister NYLA. Getting to know TIA allows TYSON to see a way out of his violent life. But TIA’s blossoming romance is a consequence that DAVINA had not envisaged, and DAVINA begins to plot a terrible revenge.
With a sizzling soundtrack from the Pure Music label, and cameos from the most exciting emerging talent of the UK film industry such as Adam Deacon (‘4-3-2-1’ and ‘Kidulthood’) and Leo Gregory (‘Green Street’), along with stars of the urban music world Bashy, Snakeyman and Giggs, VICTIM is set for release in February 2011.
And next we have “Urban” horror flick LETHAL which started filming yesterday.
LETHAL follows the story of Mikey, a young man seeking to fit in with his peers having moved to this new area, the notorious Highfield Estate. Highfield has become a hot bed of criminal activity, a no go area for the police. With incidents of gang related knife crime at an all-time high the government and local council were left with very little alternative than to propose an extensive redevelopment of the entire area. Mikey’s new found friends have all experienced ‘Highfield Estate’ first hand, having grown up there, the constant police and crime scene tape has become an everyday occurrence. With practically all flats now boarded up, a challenge is set to Mikey to stay in Highfield Estate for a whole night…. alone. An initiation into the crew. He willingly accepts, but neither his friends or Mikey could be prepared for what then lies in store…
LETHAL is set to become Britain’s biggest, goriest, most original slasher movies of the decade. Written as the first part of a trilogy, with a second instalment picking up the story following the bloody aftermath of events of LETHAL! And the third instalment LETHAL- ‘The Beginning’ going back to trace the origins of this trail of bloody violence!!
LETHAL CAST -Red Madrell (Adulthood, Kidulthood), Kathryn Prescott (Skins), Jay Brown (The Hunters, Outlaw, Baseline), Michael Obiora (Misfits, Hotel Babylon), Michael Wildman (The Bourne Ultimatum, Harry Potter), Paul Anderson (The Firm, Sherlock), Don Klass (Adulthood)
So there you have it. Crime, revenge, gore, romance, council estates, death, road man antics, URBAN!
I will post trailers once they become available.
Several days ago I posted news on the dubious campaign set up by singer Alicia Keys to help raise awareness for World AIDS Day. Click HERE to read if you missed it.
Punchbowl Blog reports that tomorrow (1 December) Hollywood will die digitally to raise awareness for World AIDS Day. A-list celebrities who have Twitter accounts will “sacrifice” yes that’s right “SACRIFICE” tweeting until $1 million is raised to buy their digital lives back.
I bet they spent thousands of dollars on this off-key campaign. They should have donated the money to an AIDS charity where it would have done some good.
All I can do right now is laugh at the high-profile/extremely wealthy celebrities “sacrificing their digital lives”. Why not just donate $1 million dollars each and put an end to this charade.
2010′s Biggest Moments in Hip Hop? All I remember is two old idiots going to prison (Lil Wayne and T.I), Eminem releasing a single that samples the annoying 1993 Euro pop hit single by Haddaway, Jay-Z releasing his “highly anticipated” autobiography that details his waste man years “WOWING” the mainstream, and the joke that is Nicki Minaj.
Rapper Nelly has blamed his label Motown Records for the poor sales of his latest album 5.0. The album has so far only sold 63,000 copies stateside.
Nelly jumped on Twitter over the weekend and tweeted,
A record deal is a 50/50 partnership! As an artist its your job to provide the record company with music that they can sell!
Thing about the partnership is that in the public eye the responsibility is not 50/50! The artist is always the one who catches 90% of the blame. When a artist doesn’t deliver sufficient material they gets [their] budget cut for next album or worse dropped from the label!”
“So whose fault is it when a artist gives the label not only a #1 hit but their first top40 #1 in label history! Sell 2mill n singles n 2.5month?
“Who should be held responsible wen an artist has a history for selling records…but if folks say they didn’t even no wen the album came out?????”
“Every1 luvs da album and say its crazy! So wen u hear folks say they didnt no it was out r there were hardly any in the store! WTF?”
Is it the label’s fault or in reality is it just a classic case of the public lacking interest in the release of a new album from a rapper whose popularity has waned somewhat? Perhaps people liked the single Just A Dream which apparently went on to sell 2.5 million (in digital sales), but had no real interest in the album.
“Reality” TV star Kim Kardashian has agreed to pose as a corpse for a promotional campaign called The Digital Life Sacrifice.
Punchbowl Blog reports,
the image is part of an internet campaign in which stars including Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake and Usher will quit social networking sites to raise money for charity.
They have filmed ‘last tweet and testament’ videos which will appear in ads showing them in coffins to represent what the campaign calls their digital deaths.
They will log off and not sign back in until $1 million has been raised for World AIDS Day on Tuesday. Read more…
Yeah…I’m sure Kim lying in a coffin playing dead, donning MAC make-up, a lace-front wig and wearing a designer dress along with Justin, Gaga and Usher agreeing to log off Twitter will raise millions for charity and save lives.
Keri Hilson is back with the new single The Way You Love Me and I just have one word for her latest effort…. desperate!
Your thoughts please. Hit or Miss?
According to the Daily Mirror rapper 50 Cent has “the hots” for ex-Shadow Home Secretary turned Strictly Come Dancing star Ann Widdecombe.
Journalist (and I use the term loosely) Emma Fox claims that Fiddy (35) said this,
I’m watching the show and am a big fan of Ann Widdecombe – that girl is hot. She is like Susan Boyle, man, she doesn’t conform to the way society says you should look, and there is something very hot about that in a woman. She has some moves as well. When the show is finished she is more than welcome to come over to LA or New York and I will take her out clubbing, and we can do our stuff on the dance floor.”
Once again the British press creates a ridiculous story involving a UK “celeb”, then links them to a famous face from the world of US black entertainment, and then tops it off with a highly suspect quote to accompany the story.
Christmas is just around the corner folks! So if you’re desperate for a Christmas present to give away click HERE to purchase.
It’s good news for Gamu Nhengu and her family members.. well at least for now!
Via BBC News
Former X Factor singer Gamu Nhengu and her family have won the latest round of their legal fight to remain in the UK.
The Home Office had turned down a visa renewal application by the teenage singer’s mother, but reversed that decision at a hearing in Glasgow.
The 18-year-old and her family are originally from Zimbabwe but have lived in Clackmannanshire for several years.
Officials refused their visa renewal over procedural problems, but said they would now make a fresh decision.
Speaking after the hearing, the family’s lawyer, Frances Farrell, said: “The family are pleased that the Home Office have withdrawn their decisions and decided to reconsider my clients’ cases.
“The family are hopeful that they will now be granted leave to remain in the UK.
“They want to thank everyone for all the wonderful support they have had.”
The solicitor said she hoped a fresh decision would be made within weeks, rather than months. Read more…..
The Home Office just seems to be playing games with this family. I just hope it works out for them in the end.
