UK TV: NO HATS NO TRAINERS – SUPPORT THE COMMISSIONING OF A THIRD SERIES

October 31, 2010 5 comments

No Hats No Trainers is a brilliant UK Urban Music & Culture show on the BBC, and showcases new and up and coming artists on the UK scene.

Please support the commissioning of a third series by signing the online petition via Twitter.

Thanks!

……………………………………

The powers that be always seem to want to pull the plug on anything that’s “Urban” and becomes remotely popular (e.g. Dance Energy).

TV executives… they giveth and then they taketh away.

But I hope No Hats is given a third series.

UK ARTIST: AKS – THE CON (PREMEDITATED MURDER DUB)

October 31, 2010 Leave a comment

Check out up and coming rapper AKS’  brilliant and clever track The Con. This is his latest dub of J Cole’s Premeditated Murder, and the track revolves around the use of the word/syllable ”con” in an attempt to highlight some of the lies or misguided ideals we hold true on a daily basis.

AKS is definitely one artist I will continue to keep an eye on .

UK MUSIC: REALZ (AKA RLZ) FT ASHLEY WALTERS – GLOWING

October 30, 2010 3 comments

Check out the debut single Glowing from up and coming rapper Realz aka Rlz featuring So Solid star / actor Ashley Walters.

The video was shot on location in Capetown, South Africa and is Ashley’s directorial debut.

How old is Realz? He looks like he’s no more than fourteen years old.

Anyway I really like this track. The beat is infectious and I think it will go down well in the clubs.

Glowing gets the Mad News seal of approval.

I just know the “Big Dawg” Tim Westwood will drop bombs all over this one.

Joseph 'JP' Patterson

Joseph ‘JP’ Patterson is well-known on the UK underground music scene for his love and passion of grime, UK rap, bassline, dubstep and other bass-orientated music. Having started off as a club night promoter, the 22-year-old has now gone on to become one of the most respected music journalists in the UK music scene. In his short career, Joseph has achieved an impressive amount of accolades for his young age. He currently holds the title of Editor of MTV’s urban blog, The Wrap Up, Contributing Music & Clubs Editor for SUPERSUPER Magazine, Brand Consultant for Boxfresh and has written for publications such as The Metro, The Guardian, The Sun, The Independent, The Huffington Post, Mixmag, RWD, NME, Dazed & Confused, NYLON, FADER and The Voice, to name a few!

Not content with all of that, JP, with the help of The Bridge PR based in the United States, has now joined the writing team of legendary hip-hop bible, XXL Magazine and will now be writing a UK music-based column for their popular website www.xxlmag.com.

“With this column I plan to represent the real underground talent from the grime and rap scene over here in the UK. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of people out there writing about British music for US-based publications such as XXL and my main aim is to educate the American readers with just how talented we are. Remaining humble with it, of course (laughs).”

The first column will go live November 5 and will continue every first Friday of every month.

GRANDMOTHER MARRIES GAMBIAN WAITER AND THEN “SHOCK HORROR” FINDS OUT HE ONLY WANTED HER MONEY AND A BRITISH VISA

October 29, 2010 12 comments

Mary and Demba on their wedding day.

Grandmother Mary Cotnoir fell in love with Gambian waiter Demba Sanneh nearly 35 years her junior, married him and then later found out he was only interested in her money and gaining a British visa.

Hmmmm… a familiar story. Seriously what are these women thinking? When will they learn?

Anyway now in an act of revenge Mary has announced that she is refusing to divorce Demba, ‘so he cannot dupe another unsuspecting tourist into marriage — and bringing his dream of starting a new life in the UK to an abrupt halt’.

Mary DIVORCE him and move on.

NEW MUSIC: JAH CURE, MAVADO & RICK ROSS – LIKE I SEE IT

October 29, 2010 Leave a comment

Rapper Rick Ross has joined forces with Jamaican reggae artists Jah Cure and Mavado on the new track Like I See It.

When I first heard about this collaboration I was far from happy. I have never really liked the outcome when reggae artists mix it up with rap artists - especially when they mix it up with rap mainstream mediocrity like Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj and Drake to name but a few. I am very protective of my beloved reggae music.   The genre has still managed to preserve it’s purity somewhat and I want it to stay like that.

But in the case of Jah, Mavado and Rick, Like I See It is a HIT, HIT, HIT! I love it and love Jah Cure.

AKON SIGNS NEW ARTIST JEFFREE STAR

October 28, 2010 23 comments

Jeffree Star

Blogger Miss Lala reports that Akon has signed a new artist called Jeffree Star. The singer/producer describes his new signing as “a male Lady Gaga”, while Jeffree describes himself as  “the princess of Konvict Muzik”.

AKON

Click HERE to listen to what Akon has to say about his new artist.

Check out Jeffree’s debut single/video below.

Jeffree looks like he should be performing at some cheesy drag event in a Soho nightclub. His image/sound (judging by the first single) at this point in time just isn’t polished enough. But it will be interesting to see how well he develops as an artist and what Konvict Muzik’s marketing strategy will be.

Akon  attempting to market him as the “male Lady Gaga” – MAJOR FAIL!

All Of The Lights is taken from Kanye’s forthcoming album Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, and Kanye needs to release this track as a single.  It definitely gets the Mad News seal of approval.
