A singer from German girl band No Angels has admitted to having unprotected sex with several partners without warning them she was HIV-positive.

Nadja Benaissa, 28, was speaking at the opening of her trial in the German city of Darmstadt.

“I am so sorry,” Ms Benaissa told the court. However, she denied deliberately infecting anyone. Continue Reading….

If Nadia didn’t deliberately set out to infect her former partners (so she says), then she must have been living in some serious denial with regards to her condition.

UK TV: UK R&B GROUP FDM (FUNDAMENTAL) APPEAR AS CONTESTANTS ON SKY 1 TALENT SHOW ‘MUST BE THE MUSIC’

Last night I tuned into Sky 1 and watched the “innovative” new show Must Be The Music.

Must Be The Music is basically The X-Factor but on a smaller budget, with rapper Dizzie Rascal, singer Sharleen Spiteri and singer/pianist Jamie Cullum fulfilling the roles as “our expert judges”.

Dizzie, Sharleen and Jamie are on a search to find the best NEW music act in Britain and Ireland, and are looking for NEW acts of all ages, sizes and styles.

I have typed the word ‘new’ in capital letters because imagine my shock last night when I saw trio FDM (aka Fundamental) on the small stage performing in front of the judges.

*I wonder if  judge Dizzee was shocked too*

For those of you who aren’t so familiar with the group, FDM burst on to the scene in 2006, enjoyed some success with the singles Jump and Playground, and earned nominations for numerous awards (a MOBO nomination for ‘Best Newcomer’ and three UMA nominations).

Then the buzz died down and they disappeared.

However it was later announced that the trio had relocated to the States for a while, signed to Geffen Records and then joined Compound Entertainment UK (founded by singer Ne-Yo), who last July announced that the company was co-managing the group and co-executive producing their forthcoming album.

FDM also recently teamed up with new group Frixion on the single Afraid. Click HERE to watch them in action.

Up until yesterday I was under the impression that things were going well for FDM, but I guess something has gone wrong somewhere, because why else would they agree to appear on a show like Must Be The Music, touting themselves as being newbies ???

Only singers/bands/groups that are more or less just starting out and lack knowledge/experience go down this route because they have nothing to lose and need the exposure, along with some much-needed “mentoring”.

FDM on the other hand are well-known within the industry, have enjoyed some success in the past, they are fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to work with top producers, and they have also signed to a major label.

When you actually sit and think about it, all this puts them at an unfair advantage.

Anyway, to be frank entering in to a talent competition broadcast on a satellite network (which will probably only attract a tiny audience) at this point in their careers makes no sense to me and just seems odd and desperate.

FDM are actually a pretty good group and a decent manager with their best interests at heart, would have advised them to go down an alternative route to reignite interest.

But I suppose we live in an age where artists will agree to do just about anything in order to gain exposure and to hold on to a career in entertainment.

UK NEWS: SINGER BEVERLEY KNIGHT’S COSMETICS RANGE WITHDRAWN FROM LONDON DEPARTMENT STORE

August 14, 2010 7 comments

Last year songstress Beverley Knight launched her own cosmetics range K by Beverley Knight and less than a year later beauty blog Vex In The City reports that the range has been withdrawn from London department store Selfridges.

Click HERE to read all about it.

This is sad news but I can’t say I’m surprised.

Why?

1) The promotion/marketing of the brand was practically non-existent.  What happened Beverley???

2) Only stocking the brand in high-end department stores Selfridges and John Lewis was a BIG mistake. Bev and her team should have approached popular high street chain SuperDrug first.

and again….

3) The promotion/marketing of the brand was practically non-existent.  What happened Beverley???

UK NEWS: DAVID BECKHAM OUT, THE NEXT GENERATION IN!

August 13, 2010 11 comments

David Beckham

England manager Fabio Capello announced several days ago that David Beckham would no longer be a part of the England team, and those who lack common sense have taken the news badly, including Beckham himself.

After England’s DIRE performance during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Fabio no longer wants to coach a bunch of pampered waste men and has seen sense. He now wants to focus on nurturing the next generation of players.

When asked by reporters (again) if Beckham would remain in the squad he replied,

David is a fantastic man and a fantastic player. My relationship with him is really good. I am 100% sure he will play the next friendly game if he is fit.Beckham”No. I am changing everything and we are going forward. David

“But we need young players and we need talented players and the players we used against Hungary are young and they have talent.”

The media harps on about how great Beckham was when he played for England and how great a captain he was.  But if my memory serves me correctly the team still crashed out of tournaments and failed to bring home the World Cup while he was there and under his captaincy.

Anyway Beckham, who seems to spend most of his time these days nursing injuries, modelling underpants and sometimes plays for LA Galaxy (a stupid move motivated by financial gain) is 35 years old, not as fast as he once was, and is at an age where most players are preparing to hang up their boots.

Beckham at this point in his career cannot help the England squad move forward effectively on the pitch and needs to graciously step aside.

Give the next generation of England players the opportunity to grow and prove themselves.

UK NEWS: CHANNEL 5 FIRE FORMER FOOTBALLER IAN WRIGHT

Ian Wright with former co-hosts.

Via The Daily Mail

Ian Wright was last night sacked from Channel 5 after refusing to promote the broadcaster’s shows.

The former Arsenal player, 46, was axed from his nightly show, Live at Studio 5, after a row with executives when he refused to promote the channel’s ailing talent show Don’t Stop Believing.

A friend of the veteran sportsman – who has been capped 33 times for England – said: ‘Ian is not a puppet. Don’t Stop Believing has lost nearly a million viewers and he was told to come on air and say how great the show was, but he refused.’ Continue Reading…..

Ha ha ha ha!

I don’t blame Ian. Why lie? Don’t Stop Believing is absolute rubbish. The ‘inspiration’ behind this ‘talent show’ is obviously Glee, but it’s still crashing and burning.

Good! Don’t Stop Believing is nothing but lazy and uninspiring television that deserves to drop out of the ratings.

As for Live at Studio 5, it’s not a bad show. I will miss Ian.

JAY-Z ‘ALL BLACK EVERYTHING’S’ NIKE AIR FORCE 1′S

August 12, 2010 9 comments
This is just what the world’s been waiting for!

The “mighty” Jay-Z aka Hove aka J-Hova aka Luci has teamed up with Nike to create a limited edition of  jet black Airforce 1′s (inspired by the World Basketball Festival) called All Black Everything.

In case you are all wondering how they came up with that name well, it’s a lame line taken from Jay’s mediocre track Run This Town.
According to the Social Writers Blog Nike has donated the trainers to the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation who have teamed up with eBay to auction off five pairs.

All proceeds will go to the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation.

August 11, 2010 4 comments

It’s been reported that American Idol star Fantasia Barrino has been hospitalized after attempting to commit suicide.

“Police sources” say Barrino  was found in the closet of her home and later rushed to hospital, where she was hospitalized with “possible internal injuries” after “ingesting medication.”
