ESQUIRE MAGAZINE UK (MAY 2010): THE JAY-Z NAUSEATING LOVEFEST CONTINUES

April 18, 2010 6 comments

[Thanks Mikey]

Jay-Z is featured in the May 2010 issue of Esquire Magazine UK“Jay-Z  Why He’s  The CEO Of Cool”, and TV/radio personality Jonathan Ross has written an article about the rapper.

The British mainstream media’s obsession with Jay is just nauseating!

You have BBC Radio personality Jo Whiley who I always associate with the Indie Rock scene,  fawning, cooing and wetting herself over Jay and now Jonathan’s his biggest fan.

To some Jay-Z is now the acceptable face of Hip Hop.

The entire Esquire feature including Jonathan’s piece is arse licking at it’s finest!

When talking about Jay the Esquire writer uses words like “extraordinary”, “memorable”, “distinguished”, “maturing gracefully”,  ” unique”,  “remarkable”, and my personal favourite ” the greatest rapper ever to pick up the microphone”.

And check out excerpt from Jonathan Ross’ article…

Jay’s been on my show a few times and I’ve always thought he’s a smart, reserved and cool kind of guy, but cool in a way that comes from knowing your worth and your ability, rather than cool that comes from just thinking you’re cool. He’s someone who knows his worth based on his talent, rather than just having had a few hits and made a bit of money.

The first time I met him I didn’t realise he was Mr Beyonce, which is interesting because, in most cases when someone has such a mainstream artist partner, you’d be aware of it. I don’t know if it’s deliberate , but it’s clear his career isn’t about her.

Musically I think he has brilliant arranging skills. The way he puts different words , sounds and textures together is anything but straightforward and more complex than it appears.

Although the message is different, its a bit like the first time I heard Public Enemy. There’s clearly an intelligence at work in his lyrics (and I like  “the beats”, as the kids say).

’99 problems’ sums up that deceptive simplicity he has. It sounds like an almost asinine statement, but it works perfectly in the rhyme that’s repeated.  Whether  you want to take it on face value or whether you want to take it as someone who’s being boastful. It’s like a movie pitch in one line.

Although the message is different, it’s bit like the first time I heard Public Enemy.

Oh please Jonathan! Public Enemy?

SHUT UP! Just SHUT UP!

Musically I think he has brilliant arranging skills. The way he puts different words , sounds and textures together is anything but straightforward and more complex than it appears.

*Rolls eyes”. Like Jay’s some sort of a Hip Hop genius. Like he’s the first to do this.

Erm… Jonathan luv ever heard of Rakim??? No? YouTube him!

I am willing to bet that Jonathan didn’t even know who Jay-Z was before the Glastonbury gig in the summer of 2008 and probably listened to his entire back catalogue for the very first time last week.

The same can be said for the majority of folk working within the realms of the British mainstream press/entertainment.  They have never been interested in the Hip Hop genre (unless it involves some form of negativity), and are all just jumping on the mighty J-Hova bandwagon. Why? Because he’s married to Beyonce and rolls with Chris Martin, ‘flagrant’ Gwyneth, Bono and the men who hide amongst the shadows.

Now please pass me the sick bucket.

UK NEWS: TV PRESENTER / MODEL DONATELLA RESIGNS FROM GRIME DAILY AFTER PARTY SHOOTING

Donatella Panayiotou

[Thanks Brown Eyez]

TV presenter and model Donatella Panayiotou has announced her resignation from Grime Daily.

This comes after the shooting incident that took place last weekend during the Grime Daily 1st anniversary party in North London, and the sensationalized news coverage which later went on to cite Donatella as being the main target.

I openly questioned The Sun newspaper’s ridiculous story (click here to read), and it soon became clear that I wasn’t the only one questioning it.

Since then The Sun has published a new article telling the world that Donatella is now receiving death threats (HUGE SIGH). Click HERE to read all about it.

Anyway today Donatella spoke to RWD’s Sian Anderson and had this to say,

“I ignored the newspapers initially as this isn’t – and never was – about me,It should be about the victims and looking at how this happened and can be prevented from happening again… When I saw the paper I was fuming – I contacted The Sun to try and set them straight but in no way did I sell my story. In the brief conversation I had with Anthony France (the journalist who ran the story) I said I’d been receiving threats as a result and wanted their account rectified as I clearly wasn’t the target of what took place.”

She then went on to add,

“I’d like to officially announce my resignation from Grime Daily. I will no longer be presenting, supporting or associated with the brand or website”.

“Yes, I did give permission for them to use the warehouse but it wasn’t my party and subsequently had nothing to do with me. Posty (the co-founder of Grime Daily) recruited Face4Music to come on board and my dealings with it ended there.”

A volcanic cloud over Europe

Via BBC News

All flights in and out of the UK and several other European countries have been suspended as ash from a volcanic eruption in Iceland moves south.

Up to 4,000 flights are being cancelled with airspace closed in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark among others.

The UK’s air traffic control service (Nats) said no flights would be allowed in UK airspace until at least 0700 BST on Friday amid fears of engine damage.

The airspace restriction was the worst in living memory, a spokesman said. Continue Reading….

Hmmmm is anybody buying this?

Where are my conspiracy theorists at???

VIDEO: JANELLE MONAE – TIGHTROPE FT BIG BOI

April 14, 2010 11 comments

I have come across articles featuring Janelle and seen her videos posted on numerous websites, but I’ve never bothered to read those articles or bothered to click on play.

I just couldn’t be bothered! It can only be described as pure laziness.

But that all changed today when I decided to listen to her new single Tightrobe.

I am now kicking myself for not checking the singer out from the start.

Janelle you now have a new fan!

In this video she reminds me of a female James Brown.

VIDEO: TONI BRAXTON – ‘MAKE MY HEART’

April 14, 2010 3 comments

Make My Heart is Toni Braxton’s new single and to be honest I’m a little disappointed.

I mean it’s actually quite catchy and I can see it going down relatively well in the clubs, but Toni could have released a stronger comeback single and video.

This woman used to be a superstar. What happened???
