UK MUSIC: MCLEAN – ‘FINALLY IN LOVE’

April 25, 2010 5 comments

McLean’s new single Finally In Love will be released on June 13th, and it sounds familiar.

Finally In Love is decent enough.  It’s the kind of track that will get played to death on BBC Radio, and it will also do the business chart wise.

Dragons’ Den star Levi Roots is being sued by an old friend who claims that he is the real inventor of the entrepreneur’s famous Reggae Reggae Sauce.

Tony Bailey, who worked with Mr Roots for 17 years on a food stall, has filed a claim in the High Court for more than £300,000.

He alleges that Mr Roots, 51, stole the sauce’s recipe from him before he appeared on the hit BBC programme three years ago. Continue Reading…

‘At first it didn’t seem right to take legal action but Tony is angry at how things have turned out.’

Oh dear..

Levi had the foresight, ambition and personality to take the product further. Beyond his wildest dreams. Now Tony wants a big piece of the pie… years later.

UK TV: PLAN B PERFORMS ON LATER WITH JOOLS HOLLAND

April 24, 2010 5 comments

When I first heard Plan B sing on Tonight With Jonathan Ross I was stunned. I thought he was a rapper.  Plan B, old misery guts rapper from East London,  when did he become a “soul” singer???

Anyway the rapper, “singer” and actor’s latest album The Defamation Of Strickland Banks has shot straight to number 1 in the UK album chart.

If your face fits and you add a bit of an old skool soul vibe in to the mix you’re always  guaranteed a top-selling album in this country.

Plan B appeared on the very selective Later With Jools Holland last week and performed his current single Stay Too Long.

Your thoughts please. Can Plan B sing?

Singer Brandy appeared on the Wendy Williams Show alongside her mother, father and brother Ray-J, to  promote their new “reality” show.

In the footage below their mother Sonja Norwood addresses Ray-J and Kim Kardashian’s leaked sex tape.

My question to the Norwood family:  Has it really come to this???

*shaking my head*

UK MUSIC NEWS: TINCHY STRYDER AND TINIE TEMPAH TO FEATURE ON P.DIDDY REMIX ‘HELLO GOOD MORNING’

April 23, 2010 8 comments

Sean 'Diddy' Combs

This week Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs expressed a sudden love and adoration for the UK music scene (Grime music) and let the entire world know via Twitter

As well as announcing that he will be working with UK rapper Skepta on the remix to Hello Good Morning, he has now also invited on board Tinchy Stryder and Tinie Tempa.

Tine Tempah

Diddy sat down with journalist Hattie Collins and discussed the up and coming collaborations.

Via Hattie Collins Blog

“I think Tinie is doing something for us but not on the grime mix. He’s on one of the UK remixes of Hello Good Morning with Tinchy Stryder. That’s exclusive right there. I want Skepta to do a straight, dirty, authentic grime remix where I redo the vocals, the beats and everything. So I hit up everyone on Twitter and Skepta hit me right back. He was buggin’. He said his twitter blew up, caught on fire and nearly crashed the server… And we just, I guess it’s just exciting. I’m actually rooting for the UK. I love the UK, I love the artists, the vibe, the style, the swag. I always wanted to do more with the UK cos I think we have an affiliation with each other. If I could be one of the people musically to help expose some of the talent through this album especially, because this album has a very UK vibe. The last train to Paris is through London so….

So I think that’s happening organically. It’s not pre-meditated. I didn’t like go and give it to some A&Rs and say ‘go get me Skepta.’ This was designed by God and by the people. I put it on Twitter, people hit me back, I got at Skepta, we had a vibe on the phone. I said ‘I don’t know what’s gonna happen with it, but we’re gonna try and make it happen.’ It’s serious though, it’s definately something we’re going to be getting into in the next couple of days. If it comes out right, we’re gonna be shooting a video for it and the whole nine.

“This was designed by God and by the people” - Oh Diddy don’t bring God in to this! Just cut the clap trap! A miracle hasn’t just happened.

But congratulations Tinchy, Tinie and Skepta.

Now go forth and proceed with caution.

Skepta

Fellow blogger Vex In The City just said something that’s got me thinking. I wonder if Skepta’s really happy with this arrangement.

Earlier this week the Twitter hype went in to overdrive when word got out that Skepta would be featured on the remix. Now Tinie and Tinchy who have both enjoyed phenomenal success here  (by UK ”Urban” scene standards)  have been brought on board, and I have this feeling that their remix will perhaps recieve more of a promotional/marketing push and airplay because of their current mainstream appeal.

So where will that leave Skepta’s remix?

Diddy is a shrewd and unscrupulous business man. People here need to understand that! He has been taught by the best.

I just hope Skepta manages to get something positive out of the experience, and isn’t wasting his time and energy contributing to a project that may never see the light of day and banished to the Bad Boy vault.

I want Skepta to do a straight, dirty, authentic grime remix where I redo the vocals, the beats and everything.

I’m not an expert when it comes to these things. What does this mean? Will it still sound like a Grime track after he’s finished working “his magic”? Will we even hear Skepta’s vocals?

Hmmmmmm…… I will be keeping a close eye on how this all develops.

UK MUSIC: SNAKEYMAN – ‘CRIED’

April 22, 2010 1 comment

Snakeyman  starred in the UK film Adulthood and will also appear in the up and coming flick 4.3.2.1

As well as acting Snakeyman is also embarking on music career and has just released the single Cried.

This is my first time ever listening to a Snakeyman track. I had no idea that he won a UMA (Urban Music Award).  When?

Anyway old Snakey can actually rap and Cried is both sad and uplifting.

The production (surprisingly) isn’t bad either.

I’m sorry but most of the time the production over here is weak. But the production on this track gets a rating over 5.

The video – Apart from the spelling mistake at the beginning (or was that deliberate?) it’s your average UK rap video. Gloomy and shot in the endz.

Your thoughts please. Hit or Miss?

VIDEO: CIARA FT LUDACRIS – RIDE

April 22, 2010 16 comments

Ciara is back with the new single Ride, and seems to have gone back to being the old Ciara musically.

more about “ciara“, posted with vodpod

I really like Ride. I love the production and okay we all know that Ci Ci is no Whitney Houston (circa 1985-1999) vocally, but it still gets a thumbs up from me, and I think she has a hit on her hands.

The video -  The stylist who encouraged her to put on that swim suit and fur coat deserves to be shot. Ciara (who is a very attractive woman) just looks like a street walking  slapper in those sequences.

You don’t need to go down that road Ciara!

Your thoughts please. Hit or Miss?

UK NEWS: MAN JAILED AFTER ASSAULTING HIS FORMER HEAD TEACHER

April 22, 2010 4 comments

Jermaine Bullen

This man harboured a SERIOUS grudge for 20 years.

Via BBC News

A man who police described as acting “like a wild animal” has been jailed for beating his former head teacher unconscious in a restaurant.

Jermaine Carl Bullen, 26, of Albion Road, in Freehold, Rochdale, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent at Bolton Crown Court.

He received an indeterminate sentence for public protection and will serve at least three years in prison.

Kieran Heakin, 57, sustained serious facial injuries in the attack.

Bullen recognised his victim as he sat with two friends in the Kabana restaurant on Milkstone Road, Rochdale, in February 2009.

He asked Mr Heakin whether he used to teach at St John’s Primary School and then said: “You’ll remember me, you beat me up when I was six.

“I’ve been waiting all these years to meet up with you. I’m Jermaine Bullen.”

He then attacked Mr Heakin with a glass and beat him unconscious. Continue Reading….

If the head teacher really did beat up Jermaine Bullen when he was just 6 years old,  then it’s true… karma really is a bad bitch.

VIDEO: COMEDIAN EDDIE KADI BEHIND THE SCENES OF TAIO CRUZ AND KESHA’S DIRTY PICTURE VIDEO SHOOT

April 21, 2010 3 comments

Comedian Eddie Kadi took time out of his busy schedule to visit “equal opportunities” employer Taio Cruz and the ridiculous Ke$ha while they filmed the video for Taio’s  new single Dirty Picture featuring Ke$ha.

I think I can guess what the video’s concept is. A pervert runs around taking pictures of couples (including Taio and Ke$ha) while they stimulate having sex in dirty toilet cubicles.
