British actor Aml Ameen, a former star of ITV’s The Bill and acclaimed Brit urban flick Kidulthood, has been cast as one of the leads in a hot new Hollywood legal drama.
Kindreds is produced by multiple Emmy award-winning producer David E Kelley (L.A Law, Ally McBeal, The Practice, Chicago Hope) and, as cited in the L.A Times this week, ‘follows a curmudgeonly ex-patent lawyer and his group of misfit associates’. It is being made by US TV network NBC.
This is Aml’s first major Hollywood role, and in an unprecedented move for a new actor to Tinsletown, the 23-year-old landed the high profile job without having to complete the full audition process. He received a straight offer from David E Kelley himself, after impressing with just one audition
‘I am absolutely over the moon about his stepping stone, said Aml, as it’s something I’ve been working towards for a very long time. I now look forward to taking my career to the next stage on an international level.’
‘America is the major leagues of what we do as actors, and to work with such an acclaimed writer and producer is the icing on the cake. I’m thrilled he saw the potential in me.’
Last year the actor, from North London, was cast in a big budget George Lucas movie Red Tails, in a supporting role alongside Academy Award winner Cuba Gooding Jr and Academy Award nominee Terence Howard.
The film, which tells the story of the first African-American pilots to fly in a combat squadron during World War II, is due out later this year.
