UK BLACK MAINSTREAM PERSONALITIES FAIL TO ACKNOWLEDGE HAITI CRISIS

January 19, 2010 33 comments

Dizzie Rascal

Do you know what I’ve noticed? That not one black personality in this country (currently enjoying mainstream success) has bothered to address the situation in Haiti or helped to drum up support for the relief effort.

Not ONE!

Taio Cruz, Dizzie Rascal, Tinchy Stryder, Chipmunk, Lemar, JLS, Alexandra Burke, Alesha Dixon, the list is endless! - What’s the matter??? Cat got your tongues???

TYPICAL!

George Clooney’s star-studded benefit show for the victims of the Haiti earthquake will be shown on MTV in the UK, the network has announced.

Featuring performances from Justin Timberlake and Alicia Keys, the two-hour telethon will be screened live from 0100 GMT on Saturday, 23 January.

It will then be repeated at 0900 GMT on Saturday morning.

Funds raised will go to Oxfam America, Red Cross, Unicef, Partners in Health and the Yele Haiti Foundation.

Performances are also due from Bono, Sting and Christina Aguilera. Continue Reading…

It’s for a good cause but people only ever show up to benefit concerts to see their favourite artists perform live on stage. Rarely do they think or care about the cause, and the majority of artists who agree to take part do it because it’s good PR, or desperately need to kick-start a comeback ( yes I’m talking about you Christina Aguilera).

Anyway so far we have Bono (A must have!), Justin Timberlake, Christina and Alicia Keys on the bill. Do they also plan on inviting artists from all over the Caribbean to perform too???

…..And I don’t just mean Rihanna, The Marley family and Sean Paul.

Enquiring minds would like to know….

January 18, 2010 7 comments

Last month he was performing live each week in front of MILLIONS on the biggest show in Britain, The X-Factor.

Now he is going to be performing live at Butlins family holiday camp….

Via Get Reading

Butlins have announced that for the first time at a UK holiday centre stars of both X-Factor and Britain’s Got Talent will be appearing in the same live shows at the three beachside resorts, Bognor Regis, Minehead and Skegness.

Many of the stars are from the most recent shows – from X-Factor there will be Olly, Stacey, Danyl, Lloyd, Jamie, Lucie, Rachel and Miss Frank with Stavros Flatley, George Sampson and Faces of Disco from Britain’s Got Talent. Both brands will be represented on weekend and mid-week breaks.

Well at least this will give him a chance to improve on his vocals…. and it’s a cheque…..

JAMAICA JOINS HAITI RELIEF EFFORTS

Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding

Via The Jamaica Gleaner

The Jamaican Government is helping it’s Caribbean neighbour, by freeing up its ports and shores to humanitarian assistance heading to Haiti and fleeing Haitians.

Daryl Vaz, minister with responsibility for information, said on Saturday that Prime Minister Bruce Golding had made it clear that no Haitians found in Jamaican waters should be turned away.

The Government, on Friday, announced that Jamaica would waive all landing fees and invite aircraft parked in Haiti to come to Jamaica in a bid to free up space on the tarmac in Port-au-Prince so that more aid could get into that country.

Despite the health fears being raised, Vaz was unequivocal in relating the prime ministerial edict given to him and Major General Stewart Saunders, chief of defence staff of the Jamaica Defence Force.

“The directives by the prime minister is that we are not to turn back anybody based on the situation and, therefore, we making all the arrangements, especially in the areas of Portland and St Thomas, in terms of immigration, in terms of health, in terms of accommodations,” said Vaz. UK MUSIC: CADET – ‘REALISE’

January 17, 2010 8 comments

Rapper Cadet is a new artist….well I’d never heard of him up until now, so he is news to me.

The track ‘Realise’ in my opinion has good ‘mainstream’ potential. It might actually make the BBC Radio 1 playlist.

Your thoughts please. Hit or Miss?

RUSSELL SIMMONS APOLOGISES FOR PREMATURE TIGER WOODS HAITI TWEET

January 16, 2010 3 comments

Russell Simmons

Tiger Woods

Several days ago the ultra annoying Russell Simmons EXCITEDLY tweeted to the world that “disgraced” golfer Tiger Woods was planning on donating aid to Haiti.  Click HERE to read all about it if you missed it.

Well it now appears that Mr Know It All Simmons got it oh so wrong!

Via TMZ

Tiger’s people say they are still evaluating the best way to help, but that didn’t stop Russell from committing Tiger to something he hasn’t committed to yet.Tiger’s camp says they plan to be a part of the relief effort, they are just considering their options.
”Yesterday, I tweeted that Tiger Woods was contributing in a major way. My source for the tweet was premature, however, I strongly and passionately urge everyone with reach and means to act NOW as speed is everything to saving the lives of people in desperate need.”

I personally don’t think Tiger had any intention of donating aid to Haiti, well at least not out of the goodness of his heart.  It would have just been a good PR move.

Tiger’s camp says they plan to be a part of the relief effort, they are just considering their options.

Oh please STOP!  Who do they think they are kidding??? Like Tiger even cares about Haiti or the plight of black people living in poor nations.

And Russell we don’t need you to tell us how important it is to reach out to Haiti . We already know that thank you very much!

So do us all a favour and keep your mouth shut in future (if that’s even possible).
