British actor Aml Ameen has landed his first Hollywood role in the film Red Tails, the story of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African-American pilots to fly in a combat squadron during World War II.

Produced by George Lucas (Star Wars), Directed by Anthony Hemingway (The Wire), the film stars David Oyelowo (Spooks, Last King of Scotland), Bryan Cranston (Malcom in the Middle), Ne-Yo, Method Man and Jazmine Sullivan.   

Aml will be travelling to Prague to begin shooting this month and says,

“To all my fellow dreamers in The City, and the UK, let this show you that it can be done. You’ve seen me from Kidulthood to The Bill move onto Fallout, then on to Silent Witness. This all started out with a dream, and a belief that I can do it. I’m not where I want to be yet, but this is progress. So when you see me in my small role in the Hollywood film, root for me, shout me out! Because I am you! And you can do it too”.

 

I know that Method Man can act, but Ne-Yo and Jazmine Sullivan????

Here’s US President Barack Obama as Barack the Barbarian in a new comic book. Chicago-based Devil’s Due Publishing will publish ‘Barack the Barbarian: Quest for the Treasure of Stimuli’ in June. It features the Democrat leader as the muscle-bound, loincloth-wearing president of ‘Kickassistan’. In the cartoon, he takes on his Nemesis, former Republican vice presidential candidate Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, who sports a cape made from wolf skin and her trademark glasses – and very little else. Obama will also feature in another Devil’s Due book, ‘Drafted: One Hundred Days’. It tells the story of a leader whose future is stunted “when a race from beyond the stars drafted our planet into intergalactic war”.

Stephen Lawrence and Sir Ian Blair

16 years has passed since Stephen Lawrence was brutally murdered and they still continue to deny and make excuses.

It’s good to see that some things will NEVER change.

Sir Ian Blair, the former Scotland Yard chief, has claimed that police who investigated the murder of Stephen Lawrence were not “necessarily racist”.

In comments likely to stoke tensions more than a decade after the Macpherson report ruled that the Metropolitan police was “institutionally racist”, Sir Ian said that officers had treated the 18-year-old’s family in the same “monochrome” way as many other working class people at the time.

In his 1999 report, Sir William Macpherson blamed racist attitudes for the police’s failings in the Lawrence case and said that Stephen’s mother and father had been treated with “insensitivity and lack of sympathy” on the night of the murder in 1993.

However Sir Ian, giving evidence yesterday to the Metropolitan police authority’s race and faith inquiry, said: “Anybody who has read the Macpherson report would recognise an institution that was treating people in a very monochrome way.

“I do not necessarily believe that there was anything racist about the activities of the Metropolitan Police in relation to the Lawrences.

“What the investigators did was treat the Lawrences in the same way as they would any family of working class people but they did not understand the expectations and the experiences of the black community. That is what has changed.” Continue Reading…

Don’t try to insult our intelligence Sir Ian!

The racist individuals put in charge of handling this case at the time simply didn’t care, and had no interest in investigating Stephen’s murder or bringing his killers to justice.

Why? Bcause the victim was a young black male who they asumed was ‘probably a trouble maker anyway’.

Stephen Lawrence was attacked and stabbed to death by racists in Eltham, South East London, in April 1993.

No one has been convicted of his murder.

Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer has agreed to pay 75 million dollars compensation over a 1996 drug trial that caused the death of 11 children in northern Nigeria, a source close to negotiations said Friday.

“Pfizer has agreed to pay the sum of 75 million dollars in compensation and the Kano state government has agreed to the offer,” said the source, who did not want to be identified.

The source said a separate 6.5-billion-dollar suit lodged against the US drug firm by the Nigerian federal government will be dropped under the terms of the settlement.

The Kano high court hearing the case has fixed May 25 for both the prosecution and defence lawyers to submit a detailed report on the out-of-court-settlement.

Kano state filed civil and criminal suits against Pfizer demanding 2.75 billion dollars in compensation, as well as the prosecution of staff, for what it said was an illegal test of the meningitis drug Trovan on 200 children in the state capital Kano.

The trial was carried out during a triple epidemic of measles, cholera and meningitis in which more than 12,000 people died.

Eleven children died after taking Trovan, which is also alleged to have caused deformities such as blindness, deafness, brain damage and paralysis in 189 others. Continue Reading….

Chris Brown has just pled not guilty to two felonies — assault and making criminal threats.

With ex girlfriend Rihanna nowhere in sight, Brown showed up at L.A. County criminal courthouse to face the music for allegedly beating the crap out of her back in February.

Brown is due back in court on April 29.

Poor old Brukkers Dash. He still hasn’t gotten over the Roc-A-Fella split.

And look at former Roc-A-Fella part owner Kareem ‘Biggs’ Burke [mark: 2.49].  When they were riding high on a crest of a wave he refused to speak/grant interviews.  But since being shoved in to obscurity he has suddenly found his voice.

I had the misfortune of meeting Kareem once. WHAT a dick head! The man behaved and walked around as if his s**t didn’t stink!

Anyway,  Dash is the ‘brains’ behind this documentary. But from what I hear it isn’t really about Jim Jones and more a vehicle for Dash, who is DESPERATE to get back in to music and film.

In this preview he talks about the Roc-A-Fella era, Jay-Z, Camron and Dipset/Diplomat Records. Stuff we’ve heard all before!

I have to say that I loved the Roc-A-Fella era, I liked Beanie Sigel, Camron, Freeway etc – I loved the music the attitude, and the image. 

But  this idea that Dipset/Diplomat Records had such a huge impact on Hip Hop has been grossly over-exaggerated throughout the years. I’m not saying they weren’t good as a group, but Dipset was no NWA, Public Enemy or 2 Live Crew and Diplomat Records was no Deathrow Records or Bad Boy.  

The reality is that they were popular for a brief moment in time in the early 2000s (particularly in New York).

Madonna’s application to adopt a second child from Malawi has been rejected, according to court sources.  Madonna’s Malawi Adoption Is ‘Denied’

The pop star will not be allowed to adopt three-year-old Mercy James, ruled the High Court in the capital, Lilongwe.
