It has been reported that Island/Universal Records have rejected new tracks submitted by troubled singer Amy Winehouse, because they are too dark.
A source disclosed to The Sun, “Everyone understands that Amy is an artist and she must be true to her instincts. In the past, she’s written frequently about broken hearts and boyfriends, but this time round she’s delving into harrowing terrain.”
The source also added that Amy has ”ditched her trademark vintage soul sound and is now heavily influenced by reggae.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown has spoken of the courage and determination that Jade Goody showed in the months leading up to her death from cancer.
The Prime Minister said he was “deeply saddened” by today’s passing of the 27-year-old, adding that her work to raise awareness of cervical cancer since her diagnosis last August would benefit thousands of women in the UK.
TV personality Stephen Fry said on his Twitter mini-blog that Goody was a “kind of Princess D from the wrong side of the tracks”, while fellow Celebrity Big Brother contestant Shilpa Shetty said: “I am deeply saddened by the news but in hindsight glad she is out of pain and passed away peacefully in her sleep.”
The Daily Star reports that R. Kelly is being probed to see if he had any involvement in an alleged South African concert investment scam.
The singer has been linked to Durban woman Busisiwe Priscilla Zakwe, who stands accused of conning investors to back plans to bring the R&B singer to the country. Continue Reading….
Oh dear.. Kelly always seems to be embroiled in some sort of legal drama.
And what happened to the album that was supposed to be released in the summer of 08???
Things have definitely gone quiet on the music front….
My regular readers will already know that I dutifully showcase UK talent on Mad News (UK Black Music – The Good, The Bad and the Ugly).
But the majority of UK talent featured so far has been of the worst kind, and ultimately end up in my Ugly file.
I have to admit though I do find below par UK talent highly amusing, which could explain why I have created a platform for such mediocrity (lol!)
However, recently I’ve been thinking, ‘Janice you need to stop helping to make us look like laughing stocks. Stop pledging your allegiance to the US Hip Hop/R&B/Soul flag. It’s time to showcase some REAL UK talent’.
I am genuinely curious about the unsigned hype that is supposedly out there. So I call upon my regular UK based readers/lurkers to email me links to the best black music acts (unsigned) in the country.
Please email video/track links/info to madnews2@gmail.com and I will feature them on Mad News, where they will either be loved or hated.
*Note: I am particularly interested in receiving tracks/video of singers from the Soul/R&B genres who are currently working the underground circuit* (Reclaimin get on to it!)
